I think the '69s came out to more like 3500 lbs...if I remember right.
And Cubanaso, I have to ask you a question before I can continue. Do you think the 4th gen's were a good car - performance-wise? i.e. speedy, cornering...and the like. |

Here is a link to the spreadsheet I am currently working on (Its a work in progress but I believe it has enough data to post it up)...
Car Comparison Spreadsheet Note that I will add specific cars if they meet the following criteria. Please bear in mind this is for comparison only not whats better or not, strictly data to use to make decisions for car shoppers. Criteria to have a car added: Manufacture's name and model name. Must be a coupe. Must be 2 doors trim (can have 4 door trim but will not be compared). Must be Rear Wheel Drive. I will only add top engine model trim with no options.

What I remember, the SS did like 13.6 in the quarter mile and hit high 80's in corning grip (88-90 I think) and held it's own on the track but was known more for it's drag than it's carving of roads so I conclude that it was a good all around performer while more towards the straight line than anything else. Quality wise, it was a step up...but still not good enough hence why it died off and I was mad at GM for all these years. I thought of getting a used SS back in 2004 but went with another lust I had, the RX8 which I love because while not the best in a straight line it is VERY fun to drive and loves to toss it around. So...before V8's are a thing of the past (I hope I'm wrong about that) and fuel prices keep rising I wants me a GM V8 before it's all over and done with. So, yes...I think it handled good....but not great and certainly handling was not written about as much as it's drag capability. Keep in mind, I went down another path these last few years and lost track of a lot of my car knowledge due to life and a new baby.

I just like to use a 4th gen as a weight:performance reference. Because it weighs in at just over 3500lbs., but it's wicked fast - say's everybody I know who owns one
. So add 100-150 more lbs. but add 100 more hp, too. I know this new one will be a little chubby. but I doubt they'll allow it to slip below the 4th gen's numbers, is all I can say. You didn't say this, but I just like to use this analogy towards everybody that says the new Camaro will be fat, which means it'll be slow.

The Dodge Charger SRT-8 is over two tons, but it has pretty solid breaking, skidpad, and slalom stats. |

DOH missing a 0 in there its supposed to be $288,000.00, Like I mentioned its not complete yet, that and I am cross checking the stats as much as possible so its going to take some time.
I can add averages not a problem, I will work on it tonight..

I didn't know the Lambo Murcielago and the Corvette had such close lbs./hp ratio!!!
And, I didn't know that the Bugatti Veyron was an Automatic! Cool! BTW: I like it , but you think that the Camaro will be $26,195 for the top-end? I'll take that

Seeing as how the Dodge Viper isn't any lighter than the target weight for the Camaro, and it pulls 1.03 g's and hits 60 mph in 3.7 sec, I'm not too worried

Weight?
Ok, without going back through and reading every single post can someone tell me what speculation is going on concerning the weight of this car? I dont need to tell most of you that the mustang people are screaming bloody murder because the stang keeps getting heavier. Big power is a great thing but if the thing ends up being a pig weight wise then that gain is overshadowed.
What have you guys heard? |

It may not be as light as your mach 1, but I'm hoping it will weigh 3500lbs. Hopefully no more. I know it's a long shot, and doesn't really fit in with GM's goal with the new camaro, but I would like to see a stripped model. But I suppose I could do that post-factory.
