Ugggghhhh....talk about reviving an old one! I now have a 2013. Replaced the battery last year. Still clean. Sorry to see this one. Looks like you caught it in time, though.

As others have said, the battery is not sealed and it is vented through a tube.
Eventually, an old battery will build up deposits that can force the battery acid out or cause the case to bulge. The battery in post #13 seems to have caused some acid damage. 7 years is really pushing it. OP, I would change the battery now, whether it still works or not. And be sure to get the right battery with a vent tube fitting. The vent is needed because the battery vents hydrogen, which is highly flammable if trapped in the trunk. |
