When I clean my polished rims I first rinse the rims off with water. Then I foam the wheel well, tires and rims with the foam gun, then I use the tire brush on the wheel well and tire. Then I use the turbo stick on the back of the rim and the boars hair brush on the front. Then I rinse. I use the same bucket that I use on the car. Do I really need to use a separate bucket with soap for this? Also I thought it wasn't a good idea to use anything but car shampoo on the polished rims. Can APC or GWC be used safely?

You don't have to use a seperate bucket, but I prefer to. The wheels are the first thing I wash when I wash my car, after cleaning the interior. As far as the APC, I don't think I would chance that on the polished wheels. The GWC is supposed to be safe on all wheels.

Honestly, I just use a bucket of water, soap the wheels with a brush like someone above posted and remove some dust and loosen the rest, and some micro fiber towels and my fingers finish off the job ... thats all you need...

like all dust it is not bound to the surface very strongly... you dont need soap to get it off... do you see people using soap to clean a dusty tv/desk? no, any type of wet rag will do just fine...

comes out just as good as when i get my car detailed... all you need to do is USE YOUR HAND, and rub every inch of the wheel clean, and then dry it... chemicals are not necessary at all

Aftermarket rotors + hawk pads made a big difference for me. The stock rotors would rust so easily and kick on my wheels and dull them out. The stock pads also dust alot and even though I have the hawk hps pads, they still dust alot less then the stockers. I would highly recommend swapping those.
