If you are putting in 91, you may only really be burning 89 or 90 octane and in that case your ss will run like shit. I live in Florida where we can get 93 on every corner. Superchips has a handheld tuner that has a tune in it for 91 or 93 octane. That's what i use in mine. The transmission tune alone is worth the cash. It will fix that downshifting problem.
That's how tx is only 87,89,93 octane

No AFM isnt the issue... unless its not working correctly. I know how it feels.. had it on my G8 too. I have an appt on Friday to get it looked at. Maybe it is the gas here. But at 15 and 55 it pulls hard and jumps up to 4500 rpm. At 56-69 mph its hitting 3800 rpm and pulling slow. At 20, its not dropping into 1st... its hitting about 3200 rpm when kicked into passing gear. At 45.. its right around 4000 rpm. 15 and 55 are the only speeds where it will sit you back and go and I believe this is caused by the car not downshifting into the correct gear. It MAY have something to do with the fuel... but I did the fuse pull before and noticed an instant improvement. Before the fuse pull it was falling on its face no matter what gear it downshifted to.

I used the Superchips Cortex on the G8 I had and it was great. Where is a good place to get one for the SS? This might be plan B

Order it direct from Superchips site. That's the cheapest place other than trying e-bay or amazon.

So does any one have any input as to what their car does? I've been testing this out a lot lately. On the way home from work I set the cruise at 25 mph, put the car in S for about a min, then I floored it. It jump to 2800 rpm. Thats it. At 55 mph, it hit 4800 ish and pulled hard. So what rpm are you guys hitting at what speeds when you floor it? I'm really interested to hear what you guys get from a 60 roll or 20 roll.

When you're going 25mph, you are above what the stock TCM will allow for a downshift to 1st gear. You only get a downshift to 2nd gear and it feels really lazy I'm sure. If you have your TCM tuned, you can get fast downshifts to 1st gear above 30mph. Just need a tune.

I'm not dropping into 1st at 20. Thats why I was looking to see if someone else with a L99 has the same issue or not. I'll mod it in the future like I've done with my other cars... I just want it to run correctly for now. I don't know if this is normal with the stock tune or not. You're right though... with a tune it will be a lot better

They all do that stock. That's why so many suck it up and get a TCM tune. With the "stealth tunes" now available, people can get much better shifting without warranty concerns.
