Ram air does work but not on these cars. It was designed for use on carbureted enginese where fuel and air are mixed before the throttle plates.

I thought when you were saying make the mail slot real, you were planning on getting federal mail in it.

At least it's an actual hole, unlike the fake gills on the side.

Why would you put a hole in your car when you can't install a cold air intake where its located on the bumper? You want a ram air effect get a ram air hood with that has a high clearance.

Or you could take a piece of color matched cardboard paper and tape it in the hole. It would look 10 times better then the POS SLP joke of a filler.

On a sidenote....I didn't bother reading the superlong quoted post above as to why ram air doesn't work....but my 3rd gen picked up a solid 1.5 mph in the quarter mile when I made the ram air hood functional. So if its not supposed to work....I dunno why it did. Why were the Ss and ram air trans ams faster too? Weird.
Heres a pic of my home made not supposed to work ram air:
There may not be a compression effect from air getting rammed through the scoop, but they do make for a pretty good cold air intake with very little restriction.

Even though the mail slot is non functional...I personally like the looks of it and that it what it is there for! Many many performance cars of yesterday and today has had fake scoops.

You ever notice how every once in a while somebody opens up an old thread like this, well I would not of it wasn't for good reason. Rather than reposting you can see why here. http://camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170726

For those who have asked about and are interested in what can be done with the mail slot I've been making good progress with my project, you can follow along in my build thread, the link is posted above. Feel free to ask questions or make comments.
