From a Leo, I never pull my credentials... I have 15% tint, I know it's illegal and will accept a ticket if I get stopped... The law is the law no one is above it.

Why is it legal then for police cars to have dark tint?
I have seen it on many cop cars.

Ok, I don't know about where you live, but where I live I don't have to roll down the window for a police officer, I can crack my door open and if requested to roll down my window for them to test it I can refuse to do so, that is my right. They can hold me there as long as they want and keep requesting for me to roll it down but I don't have to and they cannot do so, in the end they will most likely give up and let you go. However, if I roll down the window when the officer walks up then the police officer has the right to test the window tint. So check on that for where you live because at least for where I live that is how you keep them from testing your window.

Now, if this is your first time, you could always go to court and fight the ticket in which case the judge will most likely drop the ticket unless he's an ass (there are some of those).

Those are the cops with a police dog inside. My city has 2 of them. Their regular prowl cars have no tint.

+1 here for Power Trip + Bad day / needed to hit quota. Why waste time pulling someone over for tint and just that (sure like someone else said if it was secondary)? I'm sure there is far worse going on that the resources and time could be spent on.

Quotas are illegal. Most of the beach police have there windows blacked out. It's a million degrees down here and most days are clear blue skys with sunshine. Everyone wants tint!

In Ohio it doesnt really matter. As the code states that while 50% is the legal limit the section also states this:

4513.241 Using tinted glass and other vision obscuring materials.

(A) The director of public safety, in accordance with Chapter 119. of the Revised Code, shall adopt rules governing the use of tinted glass, and the use of transparent, nontransparent, translucent, and reflectorized materials in or on motor vehicle windshields, side windows, sidewings, and rear windows that prevent a person of normal vision looking into the motor vehicle from seeing or identifying persons or objects inside the motor vehicle.

so you can see that while a tint meter (and they do come in a two piece model that doesnt require you to roll your window down) comes in handy it is not necessary.

Simple solution here, dont get tints.

I had tints for a year and got pulled over more than 10 times solely for tints, its just not worth it at all. Ive had my camaro over a year now and I dont miss them at all.

I'm just gonna be honest, i've met my legislator for my district. Me sending him a letter to change the laws in washington will not do anything for me. To be honest, lets say it actually matters that my legislator wants to change the window tint percentage for our state. Now when he goes to Raleigh or Washington he has to present the bill to the senate and house. I'm not sure which is first. Then they elect the appropriate committee and sub committee to vote on it. After that there will be a lot of law breaking and under the table favor dealing to get it passed. Now, if you get paid to enforce the law as you say. How about you start enforcing the laws on the rich, the politicians, and the famous. Not just the guy with some window tint or that happens to have a exhaust that is louder than normal. Last time I checked i haven't seen my senator get pulled over for his window tint on his black Suburban.
