Just recieved my first ticket (window tint)

I just received my first ticket after owning the car for 2 years and wanted to vent a little. I was driving home and about a block before I get there a cop pulls a u-turn across a double yellow line to pull me over. When he asked for my license and registration he asked if I knew why he pulled me over. I had no idea since I was driving well below the speed limit as I was preparing to turn onto my block. He told me my window tint was too dark (30% tint) and that he has to give me a ticket. I knew they are technically too dark by law but this is really a bs ticket as you can still clearly see through my windows.

It just aggravates me that they actually committed a more serious driving infraction to pull me over than the ticket they were going to write. In the end its a $90 ticket that ill pay and continue to have my windows tinted as they are.

that sticks... Mine are 10% tint (legal limit of 20% here), if I do get a ticket I would do the same thing and just pay it and hope not to see a police officer when they are having a bad day... thats the only reason I could see for them pulling you over as 30% tint is not going to harm anyone.

sorry..

Man, that sucks-- especially when, in another state, you wouldn't have done anything wrong. My tint is 30% too (the legal limit is 25% in TX).

That definitely sux, all tint is illegal here on cars, suv's can have tint on the windows from the rear passenger doors back, I have 20% on my sides and 5% on the back, I have been lucky so far.

ya it really does suck, police say they do it for there protection, during the day ya its fine, but at night is the problem they say. if i was a cop i would probably profile somebody before giving them a ticket. for my self, if i see a kid in a camaro with a clean record in a good area, chances are he is not going to pull a gun on me lol. now if i was in Detroit then i would want no front tints on cars, makes sense

ive got 5% all around and 35% on the full windshield and i have yet to have any issues with cops/sheriff's etc... I belive here in NE they consider window tint a secondary offence...meaning they have to pull you over for something else before they can tack on the tint ticket...

In NJ any tint on the front windows is illegal. Supposedly the can pull you over and demand you remove them on the spot. But as someone else mentioned, I try and roll my windows down when I see police. But I was once chased down like a felony stop jsut because of my tint.

Okay, here we go... now you can hear from someone on the other side...

First off, the fact that the officer did a U-turn across a double yellow line is irrelevant. Unfortunately, during the legal performance of our duties, we get that privilege to stop violators and criminals dictated through the laws of the State that you are in. Unless, he almost wiped out half the roadway and/or ran someone over... he is justified in doing so. Your statement gives the impression that the officer did something illegal or bad in order to stop you which the way it sounds is not true.
Now, as far as the violation you feel is BS. We can add this to the ever increasing list of violations that everyone on this site feels shouldn't be enforced. The politicians set the limits and pay us (the police) to enforce it.
You or someone you paid, put the tint on there knowing it violated the laws of the State of NY. I say, sorry about your luck, you knew it, you did it, and the officer did his job enforcing it. So pay the ticket, lick your wounds, and don't complain about it. Especially since you have no intention of making the car legal. So, if you get another ticket you deserve it.
If you don't like the extent to which the law restricts your freedom, then contact your legislator and tell them what you think of their decision in order to change it.
Just my $.02

I'd love to tint mine but I don't want the headaches. It's bad enough I've been driving for two years with no front plate and you can hear my exhaust from miles away. Last thing I need is another reason to get pulled over. (so far I haven't been nabbed once) :emoticon7:

My wife had her front windows tinted when it was still illegal in Illinois. She got a ticket for no front plate and tinted front windows. I put the plate on but we left the tint. We just opened the shade on the sun roof when driving around town. That let enough light in that made the tint look lighter than it was. Now it's legal up to 35% here so non-issue anymore.
