Get some Bridgestone Blizzak's. I use them up here in CT and have no problems. Don't think you can drive like it was the summer though and take the Blizzak's off once winter is over (they are not all season)

Mine will be a DAILY DRIVER, commute to work is about 120 miles round trip.
Will log 30k miles the first year. Will drive in the Michigan winter with GOOD snow tires or Multi-season tires. |

Both the Bridgestone Blizzak or the Michelin X-ICE are the top rated snow tires. These tires on an 18" rim with the pressure kept low should get you through.

I actually first learned to drive in the middle of winter with an 81 Firebird in South East BC (close to the rockies, so pretty much nothing but hills and mountains). Our winters were brutal and I never did remember either my dad or myself ever getting stuck, even in snow storms. The car was our everyday driver and it never let us down. I think you should be find with the Camaro as long as you have a good set of winters and some good weight in the rear. I actually think our 81 Firebird only had all seasons. Just got to take it easy and pick your routes.
My only concern is the price of new wheels and tires for winter. I might as well keep my 99 Civic for a winter car as it would cost me just as much as the amount I would get for the Civic if I sold it. Plus, I rather have one of the horrible Vancouver drivers run into my civic than the Camaro. |

Yea if you can afford it a second car is nice. If it's older then that's what you use for "cheap miles". Places or things you would not go in your brand new Camaro.

Although its only the end of May, Tire Rack only has two rims on their site for the Camaro. I'll be looking for a winter rim/tire package as the car will be a daily driver. Long Island has snow, some years, some years not and can't take a chance with summer only tires.

After a CRAZY 200 mile trip from here to chicago to catch a sevendust and black label society show on the way back between missouri and illinois was hit pretty hard by a snow storm. Me and my buddy were driving his dodge charger SE...heavy RWD sedan with no power. It was my turn driving then like a bat out of hell a huge semi comes trucking behind us...it was my first time driving a RWD in BAD snow. If it wasnt for me driving off the side of the road that semi would have ran us over.
.....Because of this I dont plan on driving my camaro SS in snow when I get it even though it will be my daily driver....adleast not far.....naw not at all just because it would kill me if I crashed such a beautiful beastly car because of the snow. Thats what my FWD Kia spectra job will become...a winter car. As for the rain in the 2010 camaro....bring it on!

Wheels and tires are so expensive. Why kitty litter instead of sand and/or rock salt? Sand is great for traction, salt is great too until it dissolves but then it's gotten rid of the ice. A mix of sand and rough rock salt is good. Kitty litter turns to nasty mud that gets all over your car and gloves (and then onto your steering wheel and shifter) and everything, I'm never using it for traction again.

Sand would work too. Kitty litter is easy to find at grocery stores, Wal-Mart, etc. so you can get it on the spur of the moment. Sand takes more planning. Salt will melt the snow, not give you traction. If it doesn't melt it all the way to the pavement it probably won't help.
