My insurance is $86 a month for my SS - it can't be THAT much more than your v6.....is it?

You're probably young...Have you checked what the cost of insurance is for an SS? I doubt it's that much different.

The difference between what I'd receive in trade for my 2LT Convertible (only 4k miles on the odo) and the cost of a new SS (the changes of which, I don't like) out the door is close to 20k. That's prohibitive, if not outright insane, as my 'vert is paid for and I don't want a monthly payment nor put out $20k. The cost of the complete SC kit (by IPF) and installation by a professional shop ~$7k including "before and after" Dyno runs. According to IPF's specs, the SC bumps the stock LLT from: 312 HP to 435 HP 278 lb/ ft. torque to 360 lb / ft. torque. The math simply makes more sense when considering the cost-for-performance upgrade. IPF are also Camaro5 sponsors. http://www.ipf-tuning.com/camaro-supercharger/ Here are a couple of good reads: LLT Supercharger v6 Camaro 2010 IPF TUNING Camaro V6 Supercharger - OFFICIAL RELEASE (video)

If insurance cost is your deciding factor... you don't need to be driving.

What state? I'm 24 and it's $100 a month for my ZL1. I also have a ticket on my record.. I've got Geico.
To answer your original question, it would be very expensive to put a V8 in the LT. I used to have a 2010 2LT/RS, I also had it supercharged. Problem is the Bosch ECU is a PITA to tune correctly. My system had more problems than it was worth. Rumor has it HP Tuners is about to open up tuning tables for the LLT / Bosch ECU. Still though it isn't worth it IMHO, and I've already been down that road..

Really? On your own policy, not someone else's? That's a great rate.

I'm 22 and am at $820/year on the SS.
Insurance didn't change but like $40/year going from the V6 to V8.

Do you really think that insurance companies have not thought about people doing this. I am sure if you read your policy you will see that they have their butt covered 100% on your little idea. |
