So running a higher octane is better? Now does that mean going from 87 to 93, or would using even 89 or 91 help?

Scrming says 91 is enough to stop timing from retarding. So my guess is that the computer will not give you any benefit of running higher than that.

My WAG of the day is they would have a very hard time selling a base V6 that required premium...

sort of... there are still some certain circumstances where I'll see some knock reduction... but i think that may be the Burst Knock function... whole 'nother can of worms... LOL

Not sure I put it quite that black and white... LOL! 91 definitely reduced the amount of time I see the knock retard active... not sure is stops it completely... but definitely a LOT less when i'm running 91 or 93!

I need to find a good way to measure the different this summer... LOL

On top of the better performance, one should also expect better fuel economy with a higher octane - correct?

Not necessarily. There are more BTU's of energy in a lower octane fuel than in a higher octane fuel.

Also the ignition timing is not only controlled by the 'knock sensors" but also by Engine temperature, manifold pressure, throtle position etc.. So using a "dashhawk" or other devices does not tell the whole story.

Its runs fine on 89 but sometimes the acceleration gets a little muddy. I use 89 for my work week fill and then I use 91 for the weekend. With the 91 I get consistent acceleration performance.

Unless you run your tank dry, you are not running on 91 octane when you fill with 91. So some of what you are experiencing may not really be.

My understanding is that my V6 was designed to run on 87
