the SAE Certified rating is completely different than the SAE adjusted dyno runs on a chassis dyno.

The SAE Certified rating is the rating SAE puts on the engine when the manufacturer gets them certified. The engines are certified to where they must meet a certain criteria, with one of them being that all the engines produced will make within +-1% of the SAE Certified HP.

The dyno numbers that you get from a chassis dyno are just for tuning. There are WAY too many variables to ever compare two different cars. ALL 6.2 LS3's can be certain to make between 422-430 hp, otherwise the engines would lose the certification from SAE.

Ok, Ok I get it.

Here are a couple of the better dyno pulls from stock M6 LS3's.

those are great #'s above, and/or maybe mine are not where they should be even with the intake and cat-back showing practically the same #s. But yes, looks like the dyno #s can be pretty varied and may be almost comparing apples to oranges. The guy at the dyno shop my air/fuel mixture was very rich, so leaning it out would help some. I'm really starting to wonder how the aftermarket parts come up with these high hp and tq claims.

nhra stocker--that's a fantastic ET for no mods. you have a very quick stock car, the quickest i've seen. sounds like you also have the highest dyno #'s too for stock!

And is SAE checking them all one by one to make sure of it?

Don't kill me for doing this, but to give you an idea of what the gas can do for you, I got 354.59hp and 355.43ft/lbs a few weeks ago. I was running 87 octane gas ( ) and keep in mind Vegas is also at a higher altitude.

they do take a sampling, yes. Not one by one, but then again, one by one is not necessary.

You have to remember, too, that track times are even LESS comparable than dyno numbers. Some tracks are simply faster than others. Over here, Infineon Raceway is consistantly 4 mph / .4 sec. slower than Sacramento raceway in similar Weather.

There is just too many variables as well, including track prep, slope (however slight), etc.... The numbers you see over the net can be a guide, but I would never read into them with any sort of depth.

The closest you can do is to compare runs with other vehicles that were running the same day at the same track.

The SAE Samples are all tested under controlled conditions. The dyno nombers are going to vary more just because of environmental conditions. Temperature altitude ectra. Not to mention that basic mainteince items can effect it. How many miles your testing at. The quality of the gas your using. The list of things that can change your readings can go on forever. Some of them may only adjust the reading slightly, but when you add enough of the factors up it can add up to a large difference.

WHY?
