Andy from ADM recommended to me when I go with my S/C install to to the L99 to LS3 conversion. It involves removing and replacing the heads, cam, lifters, liftertrays and remove al cam phaser and dod parts.

The main reason to do this is to do a cam install on a L99.....

The VVT Cams are not up to par just yet or atleast not when I did mine......

To do this it was $2200.00 with all the parts, labour and including the Cam......

This is my own view, but the Cam really gives my SS the muscle car sound I wanted......

So, if i'm putting in a cam anyway, should I go with the conversion kit since they have to pull the cam out anyway?

Anyone know any any good cam/conversion kits out there right now? Thanks.

I was curious about this conversion as well.

Not too sure I would benefit from the hassle seeing as my L99 is a daily driver seeing over 50 highway miles a day. AFM is proving worthwhile for me... And never noticed any annoying sounds when it kicks in either.

Forget that...just buy the chip! That adds at least 100 horsepower!

I posted a thread about the LS3 VS L99...difference and learned a lot I didn't know. I installed the Borla S-type axle back exhaust and I can't stand the sound it makes! The sputterish, drone sound when the AFM kicks in and out sounds like crap.

To have a tuner shut off the AFM would void the warranty...???? I'm looking at putting headers and the X-pipe on, but will that help enough improve the sound when the AFM kicks in and out?

I would have bought the 6 speed manual if I had know about the AFM.

'L99 to LS3 conversion' - a person who, after reading multiple A6 v. M6 threads, decides to place their order for an LS3. The expected gain is a torquey permagrin

the HUGE resonator in the middle of the car might have something to do with it... Im took mine to an exhaust pro here in DM and he is going to cut that out and put an x-pipe in along with replacing the mufflers with magnaflows... should help a lot.

would a cam alone change the car significantly?

I was on Lingenfelter's website under engine packages and their is a mention of this conversion- I want to say it was $1300. But that cost is related to other work they are already doing.

Basically a cam, 8 lifters, and the compression is slightly different either from the heads or the pistons. I'd say the pistons, but it's not enought to really change anything. Then there is the variable valve timing & the computer reprogram.

You gains would be 26HP. It's not worth the effort. You could buy a cold air intake and some headers to to the same.

I don't know about you folks, but I've gotten used to the AFM.
You gain 26 PEAK horsepower, but due to a flatter torque curve, the L99 makes more HP under 4,000 RPM, where you operate most of the time on the street.

I still don't like the 4 cylinder sound of AFM, and I'm worried about the lifters, so I may be doing a conversion in the spring. But I don't want to lose the VVT, which is what makes the torque curve flatter.
