For tools, you will need a socket and ratchet to take off the drain plug, and a oil filter wrench to remove and install the filter. You can buy all of this at your local automotive store or Wal-mart if you have one. |

We've always changed our oil ourselves. Around here it's generally $40-$50 cheaper. Just save the receipts showing where you've bought your stuff in case of warranty repairs.. at least that's what the dealership told us. I did my first oil change at 3k miles even though the guys at the dealership told me to use the oil life indicator and at the rate mine was going I'd be at 10k before it needed to be changed and I don't do that. I'm strictly every 3k (no matter what) since we drive our cars hard by being at the drag strip and all. Anyhow, it's easy and the fact you know it's being done right is another assurance.
Good luck to you!

Thank you for all the help! So it's safe to assume Oil filters are all the same for all cars? And yes =D I have a WALMART =D lol. I'll go take a look around their automotive section today!

It's up to you, but I personally do not use Fram filters. If you take a look at a cutaway view of one, the inner end cap is made of cardboard, whereas all of the other brands are plastic. The risk is minimal but the possibility is still there for that cardboard to become saturated and break up into pieces (in the case of a faulty filter). This would send pieces of cardboard trough your engine--potentially clogging oil ports, and potentially roasting your engine. Again, the risk is small, but I'd lose it if a $4 filter caused my engine to fail. In the same price range you have, Bosch, AC Delco, Wix, and a few others.

For the V6, if you use ACDelco (this is what it came with from the factory and is made by the same manufacturer that makes the Mobil 1 oil filter) you need part number PF459G. |

Thanks guys =) I went to walmart today, looked up some Synthetic oil prices, and also looked at the filters. Should I use Mobile 1? Also there seems to be 2 Synthetic levels... not sure which ones better lol. I'll try to find the right filter... but i didnt look into detail though.
Also, it's 8 Quarts of Oil right? (In canada i think it's Litres) =O

You'll really only need 7 quarts. Be careful when you take the drain plug out on the V6, it's on the side of the oil pan and the oil shoots out pretty far. You'll have to adjust the drain pan accordingly or you'll make as big of a mess as I did. I love being able to change the filter from up top.

![]() Remember your manual will tell you the correct part number for the filter you need and the correct amount of oil you will need. Page 11-2 in the manual, the V6 takes 6 US Qt or 5.7 L. |

That's right... 6 quarts I always buy an extra one in case I need to top it off between changes so that 7 stuck in my head.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ght=Oil+Change So this DIY guide sounds pretty good to me. Let me know if it's missing anything. Last thing, I read on ANOTHER DIY oil change, but I think its for the V8. He recommends buying these two products Gold Plug: http://www.magneticdrainplug.com/Aut...lugs/AP04.html FilterMag: http://www.jegs.com/i/FilterMAG/384/SS300/10002/-1 Would these work for the V6? I might get the Gold Plug FOR SURE, if it works with V6. Not 100% sure about the Filtermagnet.

In all honestly I dont even think you need the magnetic Oil Plug. Some vechiles are coming with the magnetic plug, you may want to check it out first. I know on my Chevy Truck it has the magnetic factory plug.
Good Luck |

Don't know for sure on the V6 Camaro but my Dad has the 3.6 Direct Injection engine on his Cadallic CTS and it didn't come with a magnetic oil drain plug. My stock LS3 oil plug is not magnetic.
