I took my L99 A6 to the dealership a couple of weeks ago for service. I don't know what they did to it but when I got it back the throttle was abrupt again and it felt down on power so i did a "fuse pull" again. I did the first one at the end of last summer and it really woke the car up. Has this happened to anyone else?

they're fuses. they're made to be pulled and put back in. you wont hurt anything.

what's the reason for letting the gas almost run out before doing this?

The reason for the fuse pull was dealers would fill some cars with 87 octane gasoline prior to sale. The on-board computer would adjust to account for the lower octane and the cars would run slower. The engine computer wasn't able to adjust itself back to premium fuel mode when the owners re-filled with the proper octane. The reason for running it close to "E" was to get rid of all the improper grade fuel in the tank before doing the fuse pull to reset the engine computer.

oh, so if you've run the higher octane for a while, then there's no need to get close to "E".

But to the OP, if you want confirmation of wether it works or not, time your car before and after.
You charge money, my idea ding dong. We split it 60/40 thank you.

Is the fuse pull just for V8 or can it be done on the V6?

I'm not sure what the dealer put in my LS, but i'm guessing 87. I've put nothing but premium in mine since then, and I currently have 4k+ miles. so i'm going to do it. it wont hurt.

I switched to premium recently and the car defintely reacts to it better - let me know if you think the fuse pull works for you as I will do the same

This is interesting..I'm probably gonna do a fuse pull after I break in my Camaro. Can anyone do me a HUGE favor and provide the steps to breaking in the "Darrin Morgan" way on a manual tranny? I found his thread..but it's a huge mess. I apologize if I'm in any way hijacking this thread..

Just drive it hard, like almost redline The idea is

Go to the highway, come to a complete stop, slam on the gas and shift and near red line once you reach about 100 miles put it in N and let the car slow itself down, NEVER downshift and let the car slow down that way, that is very hard on a new motor! once you are at a very slow speed downshift into __ gear and do the same thing. Do that for about 25-30 mins and then let the car sit. I would drive my car normally during the day with the odd hard drive and then at night would really drive it hard. It has to sit after you abuse it. For a few hours at least.

This is the greatest possible excuse to drive fast. Hopefully the cop that pulls me over breaks in his cars the same way . Coming to a complete stop might be tough on a highway..how about going from a 40 mph roll?
