Most "ram air" hoods don't do much of anything. The Vararam intake has no need for a ram air hood. Outside air flows though the front grill into the mouth of the intake. You can stick your hand through the front grill right into the month of the Vararam intake. It doesn't get any better than that. |

Todays dyno results.
Guys, I've done this as above board as I possibly could. It cost me $200 for 6 pulls and me swapping out the intake at the half way point.
For the VR guys, the good news is I could hear the deeper sound with the VR. The other thing to note is despite the numbers, I can still feel the difference daily driving. I've left the stock airbox in, so I can drive it a few more days going back and forth to work to verfiy the differences detected. Anyway here goes. Results are in: I'll have to get the sheets scanned in so I can post them. BUT here are the average of three pulls per intake. STOCK - 386.1-HP 387.2-TQ VaraRam - 384.6-HP 388.8-TQ The VaraRam was running pig rich. Despite being a no-tune unit Pauly said 400HP would be reasonable leaning out the fueling. VaraRam was 10 or richer. Stock airbox AFR ran a pretty solid 13. I'm baffled by the results , as the feel certainly didn't follow the numbers. When you see the graphs you will see that tuning would be a good thing for maximum numbers. I'd love for one of you other non tuned limited mods VaraRam users to dyno. fwiw my only otehr mods are SOLO high flow cats and a VMax TB.I looked at the graphs again and to be fair the VR stayed pretty consistant. After the stock airbox was put on the ECM didn't have time to relearn. It appears as the ECM began relearning the power and especially the torque went down on the stock setup. The graph shows the throttle response we all felt right at the beginning of the log. Look at the tq leap on the VR versus stock. Had my fueling been right the curve wouldn't have dipped.

You definately need a tune. You're losing a ton of power being pig rich like that. I know Vararam says you have to drive around for a certain number of miles so the computer can adjust, but it definately seems as if you need a tune with your setup (ported TB, Vararam, high flow cats). |

I assume they had the hood closed with a 60mph fan blowing right? That's the only way the VR should be tested! I'm really not surprised because we all speculated that the VR won't perform well on a static dyno test because the true test is in motion. The SOP feel is probably more throttle response rather than HP or TQ gains. True test with OTR's is in 1/4 mile times, IMO! I have a Roto-Fab which lost 1 hp avg in Ted's testing but I know it's better than the stock by the way it performs so I wouldn't be discouraged! Thanks for doing the test and sharing it with us!

I'd like to see the numbers from the PCM if you have them. FT's would nice, to see what the PCM is seeing.

Wow didn't expect that. As mentioned above, did they have the fan blowing?

Yes, but there something very wrong with his tuning. His combination of mods along with the stock tuning isn't working right. The no tune Vararam might not work well with a Ported TB and high flow cats without tuning? But one things for sure, if he wants his power back (plus some more) he needs to get his car tuned. |

I guess the butt dyno will always feels different than the real deal. I don`t want to tune and I`m sure alot of others feel the same way. Thank you for doing the runs at the dyno with vararam and back to stock. |

Axis - There isn't any PCM info. I never got around to scanning with my SCT to look at trims. I was assuming they were good based on BackinBlackSS/RS findings. Once the VR goes back on, I'll do some scanning.Having scanner problems so getting the graphs posted is turning out to be a PITA.

To adress some of the other questions. Yes there was a fan tilted toward the grille area. I don't think the fan is a large one like Ted's. I believe the tuner shop said something about 40 mph. ![]() The tune has not been touched. Completely stock and the fueling fell right back into line as soon as the stock box was put on. Seems to me that thins intake indeed need a tune to show good numbers, but I still love it for my daily trips. I've probably driven with the VaraRam on for well over 1200 miles, maybe over 2000 miles.

I`m pretty sure once you tune... most intakes make close to the same hp regardless of which one you choose...thats why people are so consumed by dyno and independant runs for no tune intakes.
