I Tivoed the show to watch the whole thing before going to bed. Does anyone know if they offer plate tours like the 4th gen assembly plant used to?

I don't have this channel...grr...but National Geo has two videos on their site. A little history and interview with Tom Peters, and a video about the V6.
Hopefully I'll find the whole thing on Youtube or Hulu... EDIT: Oh, and let me tell ya -- I was in that plant...it's awe-inspiring. The video gives NO sense of the shear size of the facility...and all those machines....We actually stood by one that plugged itself into each engine, and tested it for :30 on compressed air to make sure pressures, etc were all good. Really cool stuff.

Yea they were definitely confusing the V8 with the V6, but it feels good to know that my car was built with this precise cutting edge technology. Also the only part that was weird was when the guys where installing the electric wires in the car and they showed 3 minutes of guys just manhandling, and thrashing wires around will the assembly line seemed to be moving a little too fast, at one point I thought I was watching a game show. HA

WOW! OK, call me stupid, but my impression of the just raw complexity of building a vehicle has totally changed. While watching, it amazed me to think about every piece of totally different technology that had to be just right to make all the pieces come together and work perfectly. Not to mention the things that weren't shown like building the dash itself, all interior and the upholstery, etc. I have great respect for all that contributed to a work of art.
I guess I am guilty of taking for granted just getting in and turning the key. Now instead of wondering why cars break down, I am amazed that they don't more often. ![]() Again I say WOW! :party0038: And of course now I am all gaga and want mine even more ... ![]() Some of you July guys may be lucky enough to have watched "your" Camaro being built. How is that?!Great job Ultimate Factories! Great job GM !!

I watched it and really enjoyed learning about how it all works. I was very impressed with all the robots and technical parts to putting our babies together.
The paint room was really interesting. |

Me neither...at least not here in Canada...I don't think anyone does?
I do have it programmed to record in MI...but I won't be back there for a week :( Assembly plants are so different inside than most people think. I have not seen this episode yet, but it is very difficult to show just how huge these places are and I am sure it only a sampling of all the technology that goes into the build process. |

Colors: I saw red (both), yellow, silver, black, grey and white. Neither of the two blue colors nor the orange made an appearance.
I thought the 8 min "shower" at the end to test for leaks was really cool. Interesting show overall, but a LOT of detail was left out! They should have made the show an 18-hour mini-series! : ) Rob |

okay I used to be a machinest before I was a lawyer and I can tell you guys those switching out of the dies the size of a tank for the punch presses in 5 minutes and the intense robotics of the plant is an amazing feat. GM has done an incredible job with the look into the future in this factory. Their tolerances on machining has risen to incredible standards in the industry. When you talk about grinding metal to one tenth the thickness of a piece of human hair, I hope you guys understand what an incredible piece of machinery we are all driving!
The one thing I did notice was the way the the bumper was put onto the quarter panels, that may be why we have the problem with paint chips in that rear bumper seam on some models. Should of used a precise robot for that process too i think. AND HEY, its not 300 HP the v8 has 400 HP and 430 with the stick, the narrator screwed up there, give us the credit for the muscle we have. |

Watched National Geo tonight. That was amazing to see how the Camaro comes to life. Just think of the work that went into setting the whole system up to make this great car. To make all that come together is amazing to say the least. All those who played a part in this must be saluted.
