How much do the camaro cast wheels weigh? How much do the lighter forged weigh?

Forged wheels will vary in weight, depending on several things. -brand name (some focus on performance, others focus on appearance only) -number of spokes (generally, fewer spokes weigh less) -lip style (stepped lip weighs less than smooth lip) -finish choice (chrome weighs the most, polished weighs the least) Generally, the OEM Camaro wheels are considered heavy. Forged wheels will save quite a bit of rotating mass. I'd ballpark it at 30 lbs or so, total, for a set of four wheels. Just to give you a rough estimate. 30 lbs of rotating mass is quite a bit saved. Tony

So 30 lbs of rotating mass is more significant than 30 lbs of mass at rest. Due to the energy required to generate the rotation I suppose?

Correct. It has to do with physics and the moment of inertia. The heavier the wheels, and the radius at which the weight is carried from the center of spin, all determine how much energy is required to accelerate them. You'll see generalizations tossed around like "X rotating mass saved = X static weight saved". This conversion doesn't exist, as each comparison requires its own calculations. Ballpark used for wheels is often 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. So, 30 lbs off the wheels is similar to removing 60-90 lbs from your vehicle, in terms of acceleration.

Very interesting. Thanks nine ball. Guess I'll have to get some forged at dome point. But the ones I'll want will probably run 3k or so. Have to wait.

Savini Mono di Forza are indeed 1-piece forged monoblock wheels.

I want to get 22" savini's for my 2010 camaro ss. I called the dealership about the rim size that I want to do and they said they would not recommend it because it will mess with the suspension. I noticed that many of you have 22"s and higher on your car and would like to know your opinions.

Hey wheel experts, are the stock 20's polished aluminum sprayed with a clear coat? I'm seeing what looks like delamination on the backside of the rim. When GM mounted the tire, is it possible they are damaging this coating at the outer edge of the rim and it starts migrating inward? Woundering what can be done before it gets worse. Think this is considered a warrantee issue?

I have a set of HRE 547's 18x9.5's & 18x10.5's on my 02 WS6. I was involved in an accident and my front driver side wheel was damaged. I work at a Performance/Wheel and tire shop and called my distributors to find out how much a replacement wheel would cost. My cost for an 18x9.5 was more than most of the other 20" multi-piece wheels I've sold. When i asked my distributor why this was the case, he told me that HRE and other higher end wheel companies use European hoops/barrels vs Japanese hoops/barrels. Is this true and are their any major differences between European hoops and Japanese hoops? I ended up contacting HRE and got a price from them to fix and refinish the wheel which was less than having to buy a new one. Not only was the turn-around time extremely fast, they even took over 30% off the original price I was quoted.
