I tried contacting Chevy Customer Care a few days ago - they just responded as follows:

Dear Jeffrey,

Greetings from Chevrolet!

This email is in regards to the TPMS of your 2011 Chevrolet Camaro. Based on my research, there is no relearn tool that is sold to customers from General Motors. Aside from that, you would really need to bring the vehicle to the dealer to learn the TPMS location of the new wheels you are going to put on the vehicle. There is no method that you can do on your own.

I apologize since I know that you would like to be able to change your own tires. We would recommend for you to bring the vehicle to your local dealership since we rely on our dealership for our technical expertise.

If you should need to contact us in the future, you may call our Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-1020. Customer Relationship Specialists are available Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Eastern Time.

Again, thank you for contacting Chevrolet.

Sincerely,

The Chevrolet Consumer Support Team

Yes - it works fine on some 2011 cars - those made earlier in the year. Several other people have confirmed it does not work on their 2011's, and now Chevy has confirmed that as well.

Just to clarify, the entire paragraph from the manual is copied below (the manuals are on line at http://www.chevrolet.com/owners/chevy-manuals/ ). The last sentence says to see your dealer for service or to purchase the relearn tool. That needs to be corrected since they won't even sell you a relearn tool.

TPMS Sensor Matching
Process
Each TPMS sensor has a unique
identification code. The identification
code needs to be matched to a
new tire/wheel position after rotating

the vehicle
s tires or replacing one
or more of the TPMS sensors.
Also, the TPMS sensor matching
process should be performed after
replacing a spare tire with a road
tire containing the TPMS sensor.
The malfunction light and the DIC
message should go off at the next
ignition cycle. The sensors are
matched to the tire/wheel positions,
using a TPMS relearn tool, in the
following order: driver side front tire,
passenger side front tire, passenger
side rear tire, and driver side rear.
See your dealer for service or to
purchase a relearn tool.

Unfortunatly the dealer won't sell you one, or recommend one, or indicate that you can go buy one yourself elsewhere. If it wasn't for this forum I'd be screwed.

Thanks again to everyone here!

I was playing around with the tire pressure relearn operation not realizing that it was going to screw up my sensors, but after a little search on google and less then 5min I was able to relearn without the tool.

It's very simple. All you have to do is as soon as you press the relearn button and after the horn beep twice start on your front driver wheel-front pass wheel-rear pass wheel-rear driver wheel. You have 2 min to put in air on each tire and the horn will beep once each time you are successful, but don't wait to hear the horn beep and instead just keep working on each wheel. All it really need is for the tires to sense that you are putting in air. I would just check the tire pressure manually before doing the relearn then after it's complete you can put in more air or take out air and do as you like.

Piece of cake. No need to purchase a tool for something you can do in 5min

Read the thread - that does not work on newer GM's. GM removed that functionality sometime during the 2011 model year.

Because you have an early 2011. The tire relearn software was removed starting on late 2011 models and for all the 2012 models. If you have a 2011 model and it works without the tool then count yourself lucky. This is a bad move by GM what's next I need a dealer only tool to open my hood?

So is everyone positive that you need a relearn tool for late model 2011s and all 2012s? The only reason I say this is because a day or two after I got my 45th I went to the DIC tire psi screen and filled up my tiese to spec from a gage. However, one tire (Pass Rear) would go from 35 to 37 psi and would not stay at 36. So I held in the turn signal button used to reset many things like MPG, Fuel Range, ect. When I did this, and I won't swear to the order, the DIC asked something like "do you really want to do this". I chose yes, and then the car honked. I do not remember how many times it honked and I didn't look at the trurn signal lights. While thinking, crap, I screwed something up and now would have to go look for the relearn procedure, the DIC screen returned to the tire psi screen. It was probably about two to five minutes. Now I'm no expert, but this sounds as though I put it in the relearn mode? Does this make sense to anyone? Maybe tonight I'll mess with it again.

So you were able to do that on your 45th Anniversary edition?

My dad was going to swap his winter tires on his soon, and there is no menu option to relearn on the 2012. Perhaps they removed the text, and you can still initiate the manual relearn process. If so, that would be fine.

I'll see if maybe we can try it when swapping.

I'm guessing you started the relearn process and it timed out. To do a successful relearn you have to do something to tell your car which sensor is in which wheel. The old way was to let pressure out. That used to work. Never has there been a way for it to actually do a relearn without the tire pressure drop or the tool. Several people on this forum and other forums for other GMs have tried the tire pressure drop and it hasn't worked with the newest cars. The dealerships and Chevy customer care confirmed this. Several people with earlier 11's have had the tire pressure drop work. Hitting relearn, doing nothing, and then not having an error doesn't mean it did a successful relearn of the sensor positions.

I tried to "relearn" without the tool and it didn't work on my late model year 2011.

Dealer fixed my issue and 2 days later the tool arrived for next time
