I have been pinched in Ohio for not running a plate on my 89 IROC (RIP). It only cost me 25 dollars and it only happened twice. It's only considered an equipment violation not a moving violation. When you order your car just tell the dealer that you don't want the bracket on the front. they will tell you that they have to. Just tell them you will put it in the window and they will usualy let you off. If you only get pinched with that just consider it road tax and be thankfull that he didn't see you doing that burnout!

I can't see GM making a midget mobile. I mean the corvette has plenty of room... there are a LOT of bigger people out there any more.

I will cary the plate in my car. If I am ever pulled over, I will not argue with the cop, but I will state nicely that I will never put damaging holes into my front bumper. Then, I will find the loophole in our communistic state law (Bumfuk Hillbilly Socialist Republic of Ohio) that requires them to fit my arguement and get me off. If not, what are they going to do? Put me in jail for 30 years? The car is properly titled, registered, and I have a clean record, not just driving but in general. I am sure I can find an attorney who can get me off of no front plate on my car.

FWIW, I'll relate the experience I had with my first ticket...
Cop is driving the opposite way on a country single lane road and pulls a u-turn in order to catch up and pull me over.
I tell him I have the plate in the trunk, mounted on a bracket (SLP) and I'm just waiting for a chance to put it on.
Cop says he doesn't care and writes me up for no front plate which carries with it a $110 fine.
... fast forward to the 2nd court date (I had the 1st one remanded at the last minute). The prosecutor asks me (before the case comes up) "Why are you pleading 'not guilty'? The officer's notes on the case indicate your plate was in the trunk of your car. All I have to do is prove that you did not have a front plate on your car and you're toast."
I tell the prosecutor that there were 2 or 3 things about the way the officer conducted himself and how he addressed me that I wanted to state for the record in court.
Prosecutor then informs me, "Well the good news is that your case is up in about 3 minutes and the officer is a no-show, so I'm asking that the charge be dismissed."
Moral of the story (in Ontario) - don't hold out a lot of hope if there is zero doubt that you didn't have a plate on your vehicle.

Best regardSS,

Elie

There's just something so delightfully Camaro-ish about a front license plate in the front window. I don't know why, but it just strikes me as fitting.

Hey Fastball...calm down! Ohio is a great place to live and if you have an attitude like that you will surley get more than a plate ticket. Cops are in general a very considerate group of people. Remember they are sworn to protect and serve. So don't slam them, you might need them. We can do without "Bumfuk Hillbilly Socialist Republic of Ohio". It is not needed or wanted....understand.

I am no fan of front license plates,... but how about going retro? Below is a pic of my Father and his '69Z. I believe the plate on his is OEM. I could seriously put that on my car.

There are other versions on the net, but I'm pretty sure my Father said the one he has is factory.

I'm having trouble uploading pics. The ship's firewall doesn't like such activities. I'll try again later.

69copo, I don't think Fastball was slamming police officers. He was just mentioning how he plans to protect himself from cops who are far too eager to write frivolous traffic tickets. I've run into a few of them, and even when being polite, I've been given tickets for things I considered silly, including no license plate on the front of my old Mustang back in Virginia.

And regarding his "Bumfuk Hillbilly Socialist Republic of Ohio" comment, he has every right to exercise his First Amendment right and say whatever he wants about where he lives. He is not offending anyone, and that's his personal view. If more people understand that, the world would be a better place.

Not that I'm condoning any flaming AT ALL. I think fastball may have offended him a little...being from Ohio himself and all. Just thought I'd point that out.......

If I may...and in a world where we try not to offend anyone, I'm not trying to tick anyone off here too....BUT...

This site has rules....which precede any freedom of speech. It is a privately owned site and one MUST abide by the rules in order to participate. If one can not abide by the rules, he/she will see an "error" message every time they try to log on....just ask Toyota_FTW.

I don't think Fastball was trying to offend anyone in particular either. As a police officer, I didn't take offense. Maybe someone from Ohio would/did, but if they did, they need to let a Mod know so the situation could be taken care of w/out further problems.

Thank ya'll. Buckle up. And...drive safely.

There are too many rules concerning vehicles.
Emissions
Speed Limits
Taxes
and of course car modifications.

The government just kill the beauty of American Freedom.

Oh man, I have one to beat them all

In the newest issue of Motor Trend, one reader wrote a letter to the editor complaining of the proposed alternative to CAFE regulations of raising the gas tax. Now I believe there are legitimate points on both sides and debate on the subject is a good way to arrive at the best way to reduce fuel use. But this guy's solution was just...

He proposed mandating a 150 hp maximum limit to ALL cars and trucks, and banning any modifications to make more power.

Now I hate to call someone stupid for one opinion, but really, that is the dumbest proposal I have EVER heard in my life. Makes the whole license plate thing seem like a non-issue now doesn't it?
