Sounds like total BS. I also know many "thrifty" individuals who say anyone who changes their oil before 10-15k miles are just wasting their money. Well I didnt buy a nearly $30k car to try and save three dollars a month by stretching oil changes, especially when gas is damn near $5. So I'm an "oil waster" changing at 4k. Its my money to "waste"
and cheap insurance for long engine life. Suck it.
