If you didn't do the performance break-in procedure, there's absolutely nothing you can do to change that unless you want to remove the heads on your engine and have the cylinders re-honed and replace the rings. Then you have to follow the performance break-in for the first 20 miles to get the maximum benefit of it.

On an average if you DID do the procedure you should see anywhere from 2-10% more power than someone who didn't, so depending on how serious you are about adding power it might be worth it to re-hone and put new rings so you can do the procedure. If you were getting 235 hp before, you'll get somewhere between 240-258 hp with the performance break-in.

Check your owner’s manual when you get a chance. Only the Cadillac CTS and the SS come with Synthetic from the factory.

My in-laws just bought the new CTS with the same 3.6L engine and their oil cap has the Mobil1 logo stamped on it and mine does not.

Also the dealer researched it before they changed my oil to confirm that it was standard.

Go read Darin break-in instructions.. it helped me out a lot..

Basically, he suggests you warm up the engine for about 20 mins by driving around doing light LOADS... After its warmed up do as many LOAD as you like 0-80 mph.. or just up to the speed limit.. Let the car slow itself down ( so what i got out of it is just take your foot of the gas). After your done let the car cool down for a Hour or so.. then REPEAT

For the autos, like silver surfer said, after 20 minutes of light driving. You about 50 miles worth of runs. Go from a rolling start at around 10 or soo, go through the rpm range all the way up and put it in neutral until the speed comes down. Thats what he says, dont just let off the gas, that would make your car upshift and it doesnt work that way or something. Just check out Darins thread under the maintenance section. Its great and will definitly help you out.
Im hoping that if my car really dynos a low number, that i can have GM do something about it

break in

I got my 1LT auto today with 10 miles on it. It had about 30 miles on it when I started working with it. I broke it in pretty hard for the first day basically like I used to break in my police cars. This car really runs strong for a V-6. When I got home today I had 202 miles on the car and then took my wife for a spin a few hours later. I'm taking it out again tomorrow and will probably put another 150 to 200 miles on it. From then on I'll probably just drive it however I normally would one of my cars. So far I'm very pleased and excited about my car. Oh I always had some of the fastest most reliable police cars compared to the guys I worked with. The guys who babied their cars for the first few thousand miles were never as fast as the guys who broke their cars in hard. None of my police cars ever used oil and the only engine failures I had were Ford 4.6L and were because of faulty max airflow sensors which leaned out the fuel, Melted the spark plugs and sent debris through the pistons ruining the engine. Personally I never liked Ford Police cars and always preferred Chevy and Dodges.

Put more open highway mileage on it. That'll bring up your "average".

I'm sorry I know this just comes out wrong but where am I expected to do 0-80 loads...I mean the highway isn't probably the best place - might meet a mack in the rear end. What do you suggest for a testing area?
