Alex,
I bought the Hushpower II shorty's from Jegs (can't recall the price off the top of my head but best I could find) and had Huff Mufflers off of 60 install them for me for $160. I worked with Justin and he did a good job. I can tell you it is cheaper for you to by the exhaust sytem or mufflers and have someone install. If they buy, there is a small mark up. Is it as loud as a complete cat-back, not at all. Can you feel the difference in the seat and hear the difference when you start it and get on it, absolutely no doubt! |

I got the Super 44, and they sound great. Bought them at advance for 88.00 a piece, 50.00 to have them put on. I love them.

Catback = sound improvement and some additional HP/TQ. ...but don't expect huge gains, especially since your Camaro already has an H-pipe, dual exhaust config anyway. If you were converting single exhaust to true dual exhaust, that would give much bigger gains but your car already has a pretty decent dual exhaust setup as it is. By getting rid of the resonators, adding better flowing mufflers, and slightly better scavenging effect from an X-pipe section, your catback solution will gain somewhere around 10-15 rwhp in most cases but that is enough to feel it on the butt dyno and give you a wonderful sound that is all well worth the $. Now add some headers and you will definitely reap some gains. Then add a CAI and even more gains. Then a performance tune and wow (performance tunes usually void powertrain warranties though). But you don't have to do it all at once. Using a staged approach makes it easier on the wallet too.

Correct they are doing stainless 409 which is made to there specifications from 2 steel manufactures (USA), I was speaking to the owner at SEMA. By the way did you know MOST of the muffler manufactures have there mufflers made off shore. Flowmasters are made in the USA unlike Pypes which buys knock offs mufflers from China, of everyones products. They sent me over to Centerforce clutches which had the cat-back on there Camaro they told me when they dynoed the car it picked up 22hp and went from 21.7mpg to 23.3mpg sounds pretty good to me.

I will probably be going with the Flowmaster American Thunder catback when my car arrives. This system has one of the best sounds and is priced very nicely.

I don't think I have ever heard of a Flowmaster muffler referred to as raspy... I had 40s on my past car and I bought the super 44s cat-back for $659 and put them on myself on my 2SS. There are 4 bolts on the sleeve clamps (two bolts per clamp, one on each side), 4 bolts on the tunnel brace, and 4 rubber grommets and the stock exhaust is off. The kit comes in 6 pieces but they are prebent and fit together easily. I took my time doing it and it still only took about 1.5-2 hours. I love them as far as sound goes as I don't like raspy or tinny which it seems like most of the exhaust systems aim for these days. These have a great old school type sound!

OK so can someone tell me why its better to by the FLowmaster Cat back system with the super 44s at $650 instead of just buying the Super 44s @ $88/piece and have the exhaust shop put on some 3" pipe from the cat back and a x pipe. Is it really cheaper to buy the whole kit as apposed to having an exhaust shop do it?
