We have SLP II's and headers on our car. The AFM sounded like a bee in your ear. It was awfully annoying. Glad it's tuned off. Good riddance.

I put the Borla Axle back S-Type exhaust on my L99.....I hated the sound of the AFM so bad....I traded the car back in with 1,000 miles on it. I took a hit on the price, but I couldn't stand the sound, when I was running at a steady low speed, of it kicking in and out! If I had known about the AFM, which I was clueless of, I would have bought the manual to begin with.
When I drove the LS3 off of the lot, I thought I was in a different car. When I stepped on it pulling away, the sound was totally better. I talked to GM about having the AFM disabled and I was told it would void my warranty. So, I was through with the automatic. My Vette is an LS2 with the 6 speed manual....I should have known to stay with the manual!

.........

Did you get a good deal? I mean, Instead of just tuning out the AFM and no longer dealing with the sound...wouldn't you lose a whole hell of alot more money on the trade than ACTUALLY paying for a repair without warranty?

All these responses are great. My Solo Mach XL just arrived, and you guys are making me hesitant to install it this weekend. AFM is annoying with the stock exhaust so I wonder how bad its going to be with the Solo setup?

I think I'll just take my chances and if it bothers me this much, I'll find someone in the Bay Area that has a Predator and tune AFM out.

I had a friend... if you know what I mean... who lost about 1/2 mpg on the highway. And then gained the perma-grin that should come with the cars. Reading the many, many threads on AFM, I am convinced there is significant variation from one car to the next, and this one was a royal pain. By the way, Eibach drop springs more than recovered the lost MPG on the highway.

it sounds like a 4 banger but the worst part is when its deciding to go 4 or 8 and cant make up its mind so give it gas to stop but eventualy you have to slow down then there it goes again, got tired of that bs so i converted it to ls3

I think I read somewhere if you run the auto l99 trans in sport mode the AFM does not come into play, stays with all 8 cylinders cranking at all speeds. Of course I may not know what I am talking about. I like the idea of saving some fuel when you are just cruising.

It's more of a fleel than a sound. It feels and sounds like when you lug your manual, burrrrrrrrr.... It's always turning on and off at low RPMs and at low load, sport mode or not. it's really no big deal once you get used to it, but it would have been nicer without it.

Again it's really no big deal.

I agree it may not be a big deal when running stock...but people who have after market exhaust seem to just amplify the issue
