i used to do that when i got bored... go to some used lot with a ragged out fast car & hammer it on a test drive.

I would wait until it's broken in for two reasons. First because the engine and drivetrain should be broken in before it's exposed to that kind of shock. And second to give yourself some time behind the wheel to get a good feel for how the car reacts. You don't want to put the car into a tree or curb on your first drive.

Drive it like you stole it! I would probably break it in because they recommend that with every car.

For a drive train that GM designed to handle in excess of 600 lbs of torque, A 422 HP burnout shouldn't shock or damage anything. I think you would have to do something pretty darn radical to damage anything on a burnout.
I have owned several new cars, trucks or motorcycles over the years. I've never really gone out of my way to "break in" any of them. Never had a problem with any of them. Piston rings are about the only part of the car that would possibly require a break in period. The rings are going to seat within the first 25-50 miles. Consider how many times the pistons will go up and down in that amount of time. It shouldn't take that long for the rings to seat and polish the cylinder walls. As long as you don't get too wild and break a ring there should be no problem. I will be leaving my sig in front of the show room. When a customer comes in and sees the marks, they will ask, "what did that"? They will want a new Camaro.

What I'm wondering is which one of our Camaro 5 forum members will be the first to need to replace their rear tires, and do so in the fewest number of miles?!

All great feedback. I will let everyone know once I get it what I decision was. My neighbor is a state policeman. Now I am wondering if he will help me find a section of straight deserted road and escort me on a little "high speed chase" training exercise. I had a buddy's Mustang up to 150+ a few years ago on the highway and it handled like crap. I would like to see how this thing compares.

I intend to drive very slowly for the first several hundred miles. I want everyone to be able to see who is in that Rally Yellow RS Camaro!
