I took my car to the track and my very first pass was with competition mode.. Dumped the clutch and the car made a very loud bang..everybody thought i broke something but the car seems to drive just fine. I go in for my first oil change in a week and i'm going to tell them i heard a funny noise when taking off from a traffic signal.

Commom problem with cars thru the 30k range was snapping output shaft in transmission or halfshaft on axles. Axles have been snapping up thru the 90K range of manufacturing.

I do not think reving a car to 4k and dumping the clutch is good no matter that GM said it could do it. The computer can't compensate for the drive train shock introduced doing something like that.

Also drive shaft bolts have been snapping on many of the M6 cars. There are stories about all these issues posted all over this site.

I would suggest taking the CAI off, DO NOT give them ANY reason to VOID your warranty.

Its YOUR "CHOICE"

Steve, I'd actually call you lucky. GM will fix it w/out issue...CAI or not. Don't worry about it. They know the problem and won't give you crap.

Oh...and lucky? Yeah...because your car was probably one of the group that needed to be fixed. Had you not done that, it could have been fine for years (even though it should have been replaced) and when the warranty is up, could have broken. If my car was one of those needing to be fixed, I just GM would fix it and not wait for it to break.

Thanks guys. I can't say for sure that I took up the drive train slack before dumping it. While it makes sense in hind site, I was not thinking about it at the time.

Brian - Yes I did say that. But I was not thinking it would be the half shaft or drive shaft.

Hope you get it fixed soon.
I launch mine all the time, everytime I drive the car. I drive it hard as often as I can but so far so good. Its a muscle car so its supposed to be driven!!

I don't know what broke yet. It happened last night and I will be calling the dealer to pick it up Monday morning. When I know what caused it I will post it. The funny thing is that it was scheduled for a dealer appointment to fix the rear trunk spoiler which had come loose (must be due to the excessive speed).

Just be sure to take off the parachute before you bring it in.
