Perhaps he's thinking of the article in Chevy Hi Performance magazine quoted on the main page of this site. If so, he got the last part wrong as they said 550 HP with a Roots style blower.

They've(many magazines) also stated that the blown-LS3 will be pushing 650 in the Super-Vette, so maybe he's making parallels.

GM has to produce an SS Camaro. After stopping the production of the Camaro, GM gave the affordable muscle-car reigns to Ford. The Camaro is now in the process of a comeback and can not afford to leave any doubt that it's back. GM can not allow Ford to offer a high performance car (cobra) with out it's own response...the SS Camaro.

I wouldn't consider the modern Cobra as a direct target for Camaro...unless GM does go the route of a high-priced, pavement-tearing Powerhouse of a Camaro. I believe they Will, too. I just have doubts that it will be called SS.

Where did you hear that? I'm just curious...
I believe it was a Motor Trend article, from this month's issue...

I agree. The GT500 has become a phenomenon all on its own and highly, and it really doesn't fit in to the tradition and intent of the muscle car.... It isn't anything like the Cobras of even a few years back.

sorry... i made an error, in this posting ^, and the original posting about the power...
The article is from Hot Rod magazine, may 2007, page 39.
The new Corvette will have a 6.2 L V-8 cranking out 650 Bhp, and 600 lb-ft of torque.
The new camaro will have several engine options.

"There will be two V-6 choices, and at least three V-8s, including a 550 hp version of the supercharged 6.2L V-8 for a high-content Z28 model. sources indicate there will be two base V-8s, one stick, and one automatic, both of them over 400 hp"

The camaro will also be an approximately 200 pounds lighter than the '07 GT500 (3,920 lbs) the camaro is estimated at 3,750 pounds.

Again, I'm sorry for the mix up, i misread the article, I will be more careful next time...

I still have trouble buying that...now it's 3 V8's? Scott shut that rumor down pat...if I remember correctly...

There will be ONE high performance v6 option. Not exactly sure of the size of the engine yet, however its a pretty good guess that it is the same 3.6L 261 HP engine in the G8.

I REPEAT, THE NEW CAMARO IS BASICALLY THE G8!

Believe me or not...don't really care. When it comes out, I will be posting this thread as proof

Have a nice day.
And you heard it here FIRST that you're wrong.......

..........and just atwixt us....what would you like on those words when they're served up?????
He has also said this...

Quote:
Camaro will be available in the 1st quarter of 2009 -- not 2008.

We have not said how many engines there will be. (and the number given was wrong, by the way.....)
in response to a bunch of posts about the Camaro having 3 engine choices.http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529075

So, when you then take a quote from Ed Peper...
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/11/d...with-ed-peper/

Quote:
AT 2007 NAIAS:
Autoblog: Have you guys arrived at a final decision for the top powertrain?

Ed Peper:
No, not yet. We will have a V8, a couple of V6s -- you know, we'll have a fuel efficient V6 and we'll have a high performing V6 and we will have a high performing V8 but we haven't settled on the engine in that yet.
I'm assuming there'll be 2 V8's and 2 V6's.

I'd agree...at least 2 V8's and 2 V6's. And btw, Scott said that?^

Because Ed says in his interview they will be in showrooms at the end of 08/beginning of 09. They are now not on the same page if ya know what I mean... uh oh.

No, their on the same page. Peper said what you quoted him, and Scott said the same thing - but it was in response to another post (whoops left that out ) Asking about release in 1st quarter of '08.

Scott said, they'll be released in 1st quarter of '09, not [first quarter of] '08.

Sorry about the mixup.

Ok...all good. Scott says no to 08, but then Ed turns around and says yes. It made them look...well...off. But, if Scotts post was in reply to a first quarter 08 deal, then yes. I see that easily.

3750 lbs seems pretty heavy. Really heavy, actually.

Really anything lighter than 3500lbs with more than 350ish hp is to much of a monster for the masses of drivers (and to be honest 50% of the people that visit these forums)

You have to remember this car is not built for the enthusiast.. its built for the masses and will have the creature comforts which equal weight, AND it will be friendlier to drive than something like the vette/viper..
