I am a chevy guy and most likely always will be. well, as long as they keep making cars like the c6 and the ss.
Why so sad Corvette guys? Are we not on the same team? Anxiety is setting in across the board. I am sure that would make any Chevy ZL1 engineer smile!

7:4x is damn impressive. A lot of people were surprised the Z06 was slower with Jan Magnussen driving (not by much), but newer stock Z06 times are quicker.

One thing to consider is comparing ring times is hard to do. It's a 10 mile course; take one corner a second or two off and it compounds pretty quickly. Plus, not all manufacturers are comparing totally stock cars. Some have beefier tires, some (like the ZL1) install a safety cage, some have engineer drivers, some use pros, etc.
True. There is some hedging of bets going on. But, in the end, most of the statistics are very close to real world numbers. Drivers, whether seasoned factory drivers or professionals won't deviate too much on time.

Bottom line is, all these cars are great cars, and I won't say anyone of them is totally better than another, because they suit different preferences.

I'm sure IF the next generation M3 is faster than ZL1 there will be crap talk too.
Chevy was on a one shot one kill mission. In my eyes they have accomplished that goal. Other manufacturers may have not been as focused with the same goal in mind with their recently released products. The bar in all likelyhood has been raised. When you swing your chain in a crowded room in close proximitey to others you will get somebody's attention.

As a Challenger owner I am truly ecstatic about the performance of the ZL-1. I have been on the fence in regard to an SS or ZL-1 and that ring time is really making me lean towards the ZL-1. The wife shot down a Z06 because she wants us to have back seats and the preliminary reviews of the ZL-1 are awesome. I cant wait to see the full test on them. - Oh, and my Chally isn't fat, she went on weight watchers big time. - Still will never match the ZL-1 time at the ring, Ill tell you that for sure.

This is what happens when you combine the modern horsepower wars with the Internet. Everyone with an internet connection can express their opinion, which means you get alot of people who have no idea what they're talking about.

Just wondering....is there any official Nurburgring times for the Boss 302 or GT500?

I'm still trying to find out where the hell you pulled that 7:52 out of, and regardless it's irrelevant to compare a car built this year to a car from 5+ years ago. Cars change a hell of a lot in that time. Although I do not respect your clearly skewed information but I do respect your right to make things up.

Oh and the GT-R forums are the worst. My favorite read was that the Camaro is ugly, mean while the GT-R was born so ugly that the doctor had it slap it. Ironically with an ugly stick.

ZL-1 is really badass car . Thats why they hate, its obvious.

For the Bmw M3, the car does not have chance against Camaro ZL-1 I think.

Even the refreshed Mustang GT is very close ( 5.0 LT version ) to Bmw M3 at the track ( Motor trend tested it ).

M3, is old car though it will soon replaced by new 3 series but still it means handling of these cars are good.

For the price, yes M3 is expensive than Camaro, but thats only in America becuse its German import. My country imports both, so yes, there is still difference but the gap is not wide as in USA.

A fully optioned Camaro SS is $130.000 in here. Again nicely equipped M3 can be found at $160.000.

I also think that, in the past, Muscle Cars are not bad. I mean when the Muscle Car Era was going on, what about Bmw's performance cars? I think Camaro's, Mustangs's of that era could beat them.

Question is, when will they run the ZL1 with:

Michellin PS Cup Tires (sticker & lighter)
20,600m instead of 20,833 (most of the fastest times in that list are at 20,600)
Pro Driver (no disrespect to Aaron! I saw his video and he definitely has certified balls of steels driving the beast ; but I'm optimist we can shave a few more secs )
Automatic vs Manual (I keep reading the fastst CTS-V in the ring was the automatic)

My guess is they won't , because it will have a lot of butt hurt corvette owners. You can bet that 7:41 time WILL go down with these things. I'm guessing it would be in the 7:20-7:30 range.

I dont think this car would go down to 7.20 range...Even high 7.20's are not possible I think because the car is big and weights over 3700 pounds. But high 7.30's sounds reasanoble...

Am I the only one asking myself "Who cares?" Honestly, if the M3 guys and Mustang guys hate the ZL1 - good for them. Plus there is plenty of hate around here for the rear styling on the Mustangs as well as the Coyote motors. Everyone worrying about everyone else is just wasting their time. Drive what you like and smile.

How much will the ZL1 cost? That is the $64 question.

The Michelin cup tires helps the Z06 shave its former time of 7:42 (and not a moment too, soon, it seems....) down to a ZR1-worthy 7:22...It also had MR and lighter bits...but the tires were the big part.

Personally, I think a driver who grew up on the Ring is worth an additional 5 seconds...slicks (Cup tires) worth another 10-15 or so...

Oh, but with regards to the topic of the thread: Who cares.

I'd just like to add I think the new times for the ZL1 are very impressive.

However, I was reading from some of the links posted of the ZL1 running those times, that it was a moddified ZL1. I think maybe slightly better suspension, roll cage, etc. Which are not going to be part of the production ZL1. Can anyone shed light on this?

Hopefully the ZL1 is going to be a solid competitor, as I am sure it will.

I think the 2011 GT500 and the ZL1 would be good competition. The ZL1 isn't out yet, and we don't know what it is going to do.

I have seen some reports that the Boss 302 ran the Laguna Seca and ran a time of 1:40:21, and later on ran a 1:39:50.

Here is one link.
