EFI Live and HP Tuners (In that order, IMHO)

Speed 74 SS, even though you do not plan a lot of Mods, a tuning suite can change the overall driving characteristics of the car.
Of course we tune to allow our MODS to perform at their optimum, but tuning can have a drastic effect on day to day and part throttle characteristics, especially on an Automatic.
I had been leaning towards HPTuners as that seemed to be referenced more on this Forum, but after my tuner showed me a side by side demo, I was sold on the EFILive even though it was a higher investment. I have included a couple screen caps showing before and after for a couple of the more simple parameters (can’t give away any of their trade secrets), as well as an example of just 1 data element of the cam phasing (and there are several, as I have a L99 car). There is just so much flexibility and its all easy to navigate through. HPTuners has much of the same flexibility, but I really like the EFILive Explorer type interface.
What ever you do, choose the software that your tuner uses, he will be far more effective using what he knows.
Chuck Mosello, Commonly known as Chuck CoW (Corvettes or Westchester) has several ways to tune your car, including solutions by mail, but I choose to drive up to NY, stay a night at a local motel, and have my car tuned the next day.
I ordered EFI Live from him while at his shop, and it arrived a few days later at my house. I have the stock files to upload before trips to the dealer (something I plan to do shortly for that recently announced recall) and the tunes files to tweak should I so desire.
I am somewhat new to tuning , but I do believe a good tuner will spend considerable time driving and logging with you in your car, and fine tuning the tune as well as adjust to your driving preferences.
While in NY, and after much time in the shop tuning, my tuner drove the car, with me running shotgun logging with a laptop. We would stop, make changes, then I would dive and he log. I’d provide feedback, he would inspect the logs, and make changes. We would drive with specific manors’ to ensure we got enough samples to have good data, if we only had a few sample points, we would toss out the data, and start again. We did this numerous times, to him, it’s a craft, and was not going to rush his way through. He would adjust, contour, smooth these complex 3 dimensional tables, but with EFI Live it was really slick.
In the end, I had an education to go along with my tune, and the ability to email with my tuner suggestions for fine tuning down the road.
I plan to be at the track this weekend logging some runs down the ¼ mile for review and evaluation.
Speed 74 SS, if you plan to modify your car in stages (exhaust, CAI, then a cam, perhaps thermostat ect,) and know your way around a laptop, I would highly recommend this sort of solution.

I am going for the SLP tuned diablo sport II
http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...T&BIG=27022T-1

I am buying their long tube header package and I believe their SLP tuner will rid all the check eng faults the other header guys are having. (recalibrating fuel and o2 sensors)

What do you man by aftermarket ECU? If you mean get another OEM ECU for your car, it has been done and no one really knows if GM can tell. You'll have to order it from the dealer and it will have to be specific to your VIN. It may be difficult to convince a dealer that you need another ECU for "just in case". I don't know of any other aftermarket ECU that is plug and play for the 2010 Camaro.

I didnt even think of getting another OEM ECU but thats not a bad idea at all! but like you said how will i get it specific to my vin ? anyone?

And what i ment by a aftermarket ECU was like a stand alone ECU... Like a whole new ECU not from teh factory but form a performance company. For instance i own a 2005 wrx sti and i have a stand alone ECU from Greddy (Emanagement) that does all the functions as the OEM ECU but is more tunable...

So is there any Aftermarket ECU's that is a stand alone, that you can Dyno tune for your car, then switch out for a stock one if you wish to get warrenty work done?

Sorry if that does not make sense ...Thanks guys

If im reading this right, your saying that getting an extra OEM and tunning it, then switching it out, has been done. GOOD NEWS FOR ME!

But i was wondering about the people that have done this, how they get there hands on a extra ecu that is VIN Specific for your car? anyone with hands on experiance with this situation?

This seams like the best way to go if your just doing simple mods like LT headers (W/cats), exhaust, and CAI and want to tune it but still get warrenty work done if needed! (that is if the dealer doesnt car about the headers) From my understanding most dealers will tolerate the headers sometimes, but never a tune

Imo every motor is different and inc mods afterwards!so I take mine to a very skilled race shop and have dyno tuned before to get readings and then they can tune by that and your addons compared to there dyno charts and they only charge $250 for optimum tune for your specific car that is dedicated to your acuall setup!and they store your factory tune and the new one inc. A graph before and after!no guess work and is done right!no more tuneing required untill you remodify!I think that's the way to go with no guess work!I live in nascar country!!lol

Has anyone ever been tuned by trifecta performance. They are amazing and can tune you on the spot, data log a few driving pulls and then retune you to dial it in without any relearn procedures and flash the ecu under 5 mins. And can have two tunes on the same ecu, a tune for normal driving conditions & a competitive tune mode by using our normal competitive button. They tune almost all gm vehicles. I'll check in with Vince the owner to come onto this forum!
