100% that GM is cutting SS production because of federal gas mileage requirements. GM's cars sold as and entire product line (cars not trucks) must meet a certain gas mileage average.

The sale of the 30k or so SS model Camaros is cutting into this average. However, hopefully when the Volt comes out they will make the 596 twin turbo big block camaro.

Actually we have been told that it is a supplier issue....

What makes you think GM gives a crap about the Camaro's resale value? Once they deliver the car to the dealer, they've already made as much money from the unit as they will ever get.

Hope he is right! I'm scheduled for 9-7-09 Production!
He's mostly correct, well except the bs part as it is completely true. If your car has been order and is scheduled for production (code 2000 or higher) you have nothing to worry about.

This only effects future orders that has not been placed yet. When the dealers get their order allocations, they will be told that they can order XX amount of Camaros but only XX of them can be SS.

What I can't understand is if these cars are sooooooo hot, why don't more dealers order them for stock? Some do but very few are ordering more than a few at a time. Kind of looks like they don't want to get stuck with a bunch if the market cools off a bit.

It was actually on the 13th but the system was all messed up at the time to they didn't get it put in until the next week. Been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG wait. It's taken an extra month due to the manual trans constraint back in July. But even July was pretty late for a preorder to get picked up IMO. Better late than never I guess.

SS Model Constraint Starting This Week
In addition to these product enhancements, starting with this week’s Dealer Order Submission Cycle (the cycle that starts this Thursday, August 27, 2009), a production constraint will be in place for the Camaro SS models (codes 1ES37 and 1ET37). Depending on the upcoming production week, the constraint will vary between 40 - 60% of total Camaro production. The constraint is expected to be in place until the end of the model year run.

seems like more than just a "supplier restriction" if they are forecasting it to last the rest of the model year run...

I wonder if they ran out of SS engines? Maybe they have to build the V6's & use up inventory... while building more V8 engines?? Just a thought.

Because people want a car to their exact specifications. Regular run of the mill cars don't have that problem.
