Don't sweat it.

A lot of people get uptight about "imports" (which many aren't) and what they are capable of.

It's just the evolution of the sport. Another class of cars for enthusiasts.

The same thing happened with the tightening of emission standards in the 70's and with the introduction of fuel injection in the 80's. Lot's of people doom and gloomed fr the future of racing. Neither killed the sport. Nor will these boosted front drive 4-bangers.

The V6 Camaro will do fine.
14's are more than respectable

Remember the 2.8 V6 Camaro?
1984 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta 0-60 9.3, 1/4 mi 17.0

How about an IROC-Z?
1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z L98 0-60 6.8, 1/4 mi 15.3

Was adding 600cc to the V6 any help in '93?
1993 Chevrolet Camaro V-6 0-60 9.0, 1/4 mi 16.6

Howz'about a Buick 3.8?
1997 Pontiac Firebird 3.8l 0-60 7.2, 1/4 mi 15.5 (C&D Jun '97)

and just for grins and haha's, my favorite whipping boy of a car;
1995 Ford Mustang 3.8 0-60 9.9, 1/4 mi 17.3

By comparison, 14's look just fine to me.

My 2000 Honda Prelude weighs 3700 pounds (3695 to be exact as I just went out to double check the production sticker). Sounds porky, especially for a small little Honda, no?

It has a 200 hp 4 cylinder engine, with even less torque (somewhere around 150 ft.lbs).

It is still a very fast car. Corvette fast? Uh, no. Mustang GT fast? In some cases, yes (I have the stick, and I've beaten older GT automatics off the line, and no I don't have any mods except for a K&N filter).

My car handles like a go-kart, stops on a dime, and is always a blast to drive.

.
your Prelude performs virtually the same as my old Integra GS-R...the H22 has more hp and torque, but the 'lude is more weight to pull.

I have on occasion victimized a 95-96-97 Mustang GT convertible or two without even opening the bottle. Save the spray for the 99+ Mustangs

Sadly, GM does not have any more hard plastic. Their mystery source for the stuff has run dry, they used it all in their interiors, on Saturn bodies, and Pontiac cladding. They've had to go to softer plastic on interiors and have made Saturns out of sheet metal like nearly every other car out there.

Since when was a 14-second car slow anyways? It isn't fast, but if you recall, it wasn't long ago LT1 Camaros were running low 14s, so I don't think it's as bad as a couple have made it out to be. JMHO.
I have a solstice GXP with a manual .. Its a low 14-high 13 second car... I live at sea level so if its not too hot and humid.. I have great AIR..

In a Straight line the solstice is Slow.. but in the turns.. Holy !!!!!... Its a go cart.. FUN AS HELL!

I had a 13 second car before the Solstice..

There is a Night and day difference...You may not think a 14 second car is slow.. I do. Sure there are plenty of cars that run slower then 14 seconds.. But that doesn't make 14 seconds fast..

When you can run low 13's.. high 12's Stock then you have a fast car...faster then probally 95% of all production cars.

Your talking about LT1 camaro's... Maybe in there day they were fast..

This is 10+ yrs later.. They are no longer fast... The G8 GT will run a 13.5 1/4 at 105.. As tested by "inside line" ( edmonds )... Thats a FAMILY car..

And I seriously doubt the V6 camaro will run as fast as the G8 GT.. But it will look a hellavalot better!

What makes anyone in their right mind think that this Camaro, with the 3.6 V6, with 100 more hp and 125 more ft. lbs. of tq, weighing about the same, is going to feel like driving a '72 Fleetwood??????

I swear, the logic of some people really makes me wonder.
what the hell do u keep in ur Lude, a bunch of bowling balls? i looked it up just for the hell of it and it;s wheighing in at less than 3000 lbs, 2954 lbs curb wieght to be exact, no 3700.... my 2005 Honda Accord V6 wheighs 3300 or so and thats much smalled than the Prelude.

I'd beg to differ, there are faster FWD out there than the Cobalt SS... but that's not the point of this thread.

You guys at GM could let loose with some of that alien technology you're sitting on to build lighter cars! (Yeah we know the truth!)
I'm a little aggravated with the pig comments myself. Maybe it's the racing video games giving kids unrealistic expectations nowadays. You guys are doing great! Give me a car I can give my grandchildren in 40 years.

How much less does the ZR1 weigh than a Z06 and a regular 'Vette? That's a good measure of how much weight they could get off the Camaro if there were a market full of people with huge wallets chomping at the bit for such a car.

I'd expect if they ever did a limited production version of the Camaro with more horsepower that it would weigh a lot less and cost a lot more.

The file for the picture is too large otherwise I'd post the a picture of the prodction sticker - it actually says 3835 lbs, I miss read it last night without my contacts in.

LOL!

I'm glad someone said this...I knew that was way off!

As for the Camaro, I hoped for a 3600 pound SS so it came in 300 too fat in my opinion.
