I understand that many of you think that the v6 camaro is not meant for racing, however why would GM build a 300 hp V6 with, similar horse power to the mustangs v8 ?
I know that not to trust mag for info but if you guys have reliable resources, please do point out where. In a a mustang comparison for Motortrend http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...fications.html . 2008 Roush Stage 2, 2008 Saleen S281-3V, 2008 Shelby GT-C Power 300 hp @ 5750 rpm 335 hp @ 5200 rpm 319 hp @ 5750 0-60 5.1 5.1 5. mile 1/4 mile 13.8 @ 100.9 mph 13.7@102.1 mph 13.8@ 102.5 mph weight 3592 lb 3614 lb 3591 lb Price $46,989 $49,613 $48,675 I understand these car are seriously fix up, However could it be possible to make the v6 camaro 300 hp a formidable competitor ? |

Heck, what really concerns me is that it appears we have reached a time when the automatic is faster and more fuel efficient than the stick.
GOD...I think I'm going to throw up! (at least for GM that is) What will us lovers of stick shift do now? The breaking is not so bad, it's a heavy car which makes the G8's breaking power even more impressive. Like most are saying, wait and see folks, but I have to say that in a way those times would make sense considering the weight of the car. Again, the old Dodge Viper weighed 3450 and had 400HP and ran the 1/4 mile in 13.1 (probably, do to lack of grip) so how can a 3900 pound car get much better than 13.4 with only 22HP more? But...I don't know, these days the Power to Weight ratio and recorded times no longer make sense to me....starting with the 300HP Mustang GT coming in at 3550 and getting 13.5 in the 1/4 mile???? It use to make sense, but now a days I'm lost.

^I disagree friend, it weighs 3900 pounds and the G8 with 361 HP coming in at 4000 does the 1/4 in 13.7 (if I remember right) so 100 pounds less and 61 more HP don't really make sense to give a time of 12.8 (again, considering the Viper with much less weight did it in 13.1.
The question is, if GM is right...are you all OK with that? 13.4-13.3's? For a 27K car (if that is the price) that's a HELL of a deal, but once again I find myself loathing the weight. BUT AGAIN, with today's power to weight ratio's and drag times I'm seeing they just don't make sense to me anymore? What do I know...I am at a loss for words. Maybe someone can help me figure this out, is it better tranny's...higher rear ends????

I know guys with STOCK ls2 GTO's who have broken into the high 12's and its 400hp.. 3800 lbs.. So the rear end gears will be a factor in times. |

You would like to see the 2011 Camaro weight at 3,000 pounds....... ........OK -- .........let me ask you something -- have you looked at what a Corvette weighs? Please !!-- ---do tell!!! - how do you propose doing this? (keeping the price at an affordable level while keeping the car at a level that will appeal to a wide audience.....) (forgive me for sounding a bit 'snarky.....but I guess I'm just about out of patience with 'experts'...) |

Little tidbit of info for comparison sake for you all.....
My 2000 Honda Prelude weighs 3700 pounds (3695 to be exact as I just went out to double check the production sticker). Sounds porky, especially for a small little Honda, no? It has a 200 hp 4 cylinder engine, with even less torque (somewhere around 150 ft.lbs). It is still a very fast car. Corvette fast? Uh, no. Mustang GT fast? In some cases, yes (I have the stick, and I've beaten older GT automatics off the line, and no I don't have any mods except for a K&N filter). My car handles like a go-kart, stops on a dime, and is always a blast to drive. What makes anyone in their right mind think that this Camaro, with the 3.6 V6, with 100 more hp and 125 more ft. lbs. of tq, weighing about the same, is going to feel like driving a '72 Fleetwood?????? I swear, the logic of some people really makes me wonder. |

Not everyone uses logic . . .
