Success!!!!!! I stripped off the clear heatshrink, removed the weather-stripping backshell, rerouted some wires and cut the strip to desired length (14.5") and now have a usable knight rider strip to mod the engine cover with. I need to do this to the 2nd strip and then work on the engine cover itself. I'm also working on a switch idea so that the light only come on when the hood is open. No point on them being on unless the hood is open anyhow. Will update with progress, pics, and results as I get them.

I'm in the process of painting the engine cover. As you know, it's a multi-day process. The lights are ready to be put in. I still need to cut slots in the cover for the lights. Once I get the paint done and make sure the lights will fit right I'll hit it with a couple layers of clear coat and hopefully that will be it, aside from installing it and wiring it up.

Alrighty, I'm pretty much finished and I like the results. I haven't mounted it in the car yet but, here is the finished engine cover. I took a short video with my Iphone and uploaded it to youtube. The quality is piss poor so, my apologies. I'm not sure if this thing will embed or if it'll just post the link but, check it out and tell me what you guys think.

I patched mine onto the fuse box terminal.

I installed a hood switch so it only works when the hood is up. I used the big 12V post in the engine bay as my source. I'll do a simple write-up when I get home from my Maui vacation.

Do you drive it daily or is the car just for show? A very cool idea!!!
Mine is a daily driver when I'm in country. Friday, I drove it to San antonio for out Friday night gang, and then in well over 90 degree weather, I drove mine to Temple texas, had the lights on the whole time was there, Then drove back from Temple, and on to Cabelas for the Saturday night car show/gathering... I've also driven it on a 10 day 4000 miles trip, with no heat issues... in the paint or on the light strips...

I don't but it is simple hookup. From light switch (positive) wire to fuse box positive terminal (don't forget to insert 30 amp inline fuse) and from light switch (negative) wire connect to ground (car frame). I'll try to take some pics later tonight.

Just finished up my v6 cover with some parts I had left from a previous project. Simple red leds, some cutting, a quick spray with black paint, and a custom made chevy emblem.
