Engine Cover Mod With Lights?
After seeing the cut out mod by d69chris http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42523 and then seeing first hand what it looked like when my buddy SSE 4 2SS did it http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=52592&page=11 I figured what the heck, let me try that...but with lights. I quickly found an extra engine cover on ebay (in fear I'd screw up my original) and went to work.
I cut out the Chevrolet panels on the engine cover and replaced the empty rectangle holes with guttering screen purchased from Lowes. After sitting back and looking at my masterpeice, I had a brainstorm.....lights!!!! I went to Pepboys/Autozone (can't remember which) and bought blue LED lights (2 ea - 10 inch strips) and sandwiched them in between the gutter screen and modified pieces of aluminum which fit obviously from the backside of the engine cover. The aluminum strips serve the purpose of reflecting the blue light. I kept the heat insulation and reinstalled in hopes it would keep some heat off new paint, lights and wires. I then installed a rocker switch (hidden at the rear of engine cover) attached to a battery pack. The battery packs were quickly replaced (batteries too expensive) by wiring the lights via the switch to the 12 volt terminal of the fuse box. Everybody was painting the silver parts of the engine cover to match the body color but I wanted to be different...so I painted the center area and finished it off with a nameplate with my Camaro5 handle over the V8 emblem. I also added an Airaid Cold Air box and painted the tube to match. Enjoy

I bet that would look killer in conjunction with a blue LED Knight Rider light. Would be an awesome combo.
Or how about this for craziness... I don't know how long the $25 Knight Rider light is but, if you could find 2 of those and they fit in that area where the lights are in the engine cover, you could put two of those in and put it on the heartbeat setting and it would look like your engine has a heartbeat. And then have the regular Knight Rider display in the mail slot. Might be too much for some but, I think that would look cool. |
