Don't let the AFM discourage you from buying a L99. Regardless of it its a great car you WILL NOT BE disappointed

The LS3 M6 has a gas saving "feature" that forces a shift from 1st to 4th only at low rpm. Like AFM, it is not a good thing. It is defeated by plugging a Skip Shift Eliminator (google it) onto the side of the transmission. The DIC still shows the activation of the skip shift but you are no longer locked out of 2nd and 3rd and can shift from 1st to 2nd (or 3rd) any time you want to. The Skip Shift Eliminator is a < $20 part and takes mere seconds to install. Like I said, my dealership installed the one I bought off ebay for $10 at my last oil change while it was up on the rack.

I know nothing about defeating the AFM beyond what I have heard and that is that a tune is required and any tune is grounds to disallow warranty. I've never priced a handheld Diablo or SCT tuner but I imagine they will run a bit more than $20.

Your call...do your research.

if you are keeping your car pretty much stock i would go with Ls3. and you said you don't have much traffic. once you start driving he stick it will be natural and you will get use to it. driving it will be no big deal. i dont even think about it anymore when i drive.

I wanted an SS, manual, leather, orange with black stripes, loaded, hardtop.
I got 4 out of 6, at one hell of a deal with 0% for 72 months.
I ended up with an automatic, convertable. As far as the convertable it was more of a price thing, along with potential top issues, but it is an unbeatable feeling driving with top down.
The automatic would have been a deal breaker if everything else wasn't the way I wanted it, and if I could order one the way I wanted it would be a manual, but I like shifting and it is a toy not a DD.
The L99 paddles are cool, sport mode is also nice. VVT is the future and I feel like there is some major potential to be unlocked with tunning, both in the engine and transmission.
Remote start is a good feature, especially if you don't have it in a garage.
The AMF doesn't bother me because of my driving habits (didn't make it a week with out getting a speeding ticket), I don't think it hardly ever kicks in like it did in my truck. Not to mention that if I go on a trip the added gas mileage will be a welcomed bonus.
I do not have an exhaust system, while I do not want another loud car especially a convertable I would like a little more "V8 sound". I defiantly do not want drone or the ability to hear the AFM kick in, that would be annoying.
The L99 is quick, but I bet there is more than 26hp difference at the rear wheel, proabaly more like 50hp with the LS3.
Final verdict for me was I got a great car, that was almost exactly what I wanted, and I am happy with her. Most everyone would be happy with either, so test drive them both and go with the one you like the best.

Except that one is $20 and doesn't void your warranty.

Honestly, who gives a rat@ss if you drive an auto or manual. I personally prefer manual regardless if the auto is faster or easier to be fast. It's not always about speed. I enjoy the driving experience more of a manual. Others can like whatever the hell they like.

NOOB (again, sorry): You can't get remote start with the LS3? Is this a safety concern in case it's left in gear?

So I see you buy a cat in the sack? You go from what you're told about a product and what you read about one rather than try it out yourself?

LS3 you CAN'T go wrong. It's easy to learn to drive a stick and its much more fun to drive than to push a gas peddle and hold on like you're some great driver.

I think now that I know what to listen for, AFM is pretty annoying. It's very noticeable when cruising along through town at low speeds (anywhere from 25 to 45). It'll be a moot point soon because I'm getting it tuned out. It would be one thing if we could choose to have this, but it's another to have it forced upon us. If I wanted a 4-banger, I would've bought one.

Doesn't the afm and skip shift help keep overal cost down by eliminating the gas guzzler tax?
