Ok, let's say 200,000 people want to buy a 30-35k sports car, when there was no Camaro, Ford split the pie with VW, Audi, Subaru, Toyota and Honda. When the Camaro came out, Ford had to split it's market with GM, minus the few foriegn buyers GM picked up. Add to that the fact that informed Mustang owners were holding out for the 2011 V-6 or V-8, and you get a slow down. Would I have bought a 2010 if there was no new engine in the works? Yep. Will I wait till 2012 for the new engine and the bugs to get worked out? Yep. Plus it gives the aftermarket a year to come up with mods. Will it hurt Mustang's sales? Yep, and I really do feel sorry to those that are laid off, but I am not the government, I can't buy a 2010,11, and 12 just to make people happy. It would make the wife get "difficult".

You guys are all leaving out the fact that the Camaro hasn't sold since 2002 and Ford enjoyed great success selling the Mustang until 2009. Ford got complacent and now in the face of real competition again, they failed to plan accordingly. Laying off 900 workers is not the answer but what do I know?

Says the guy who just wants to make a smart remark.
You know my point. You could buy a Toyota or Honda, and it could be "BUILT" in the US, but the profits are going back to the country from which it came. As for the Camaro... it has and always will stand for everything USA! I admit I would have preferred it built within the US borders, as GM seems to be able to do with other models (growing fewer). But it really doesn't get any closer than Oshawa. And from those I've seen on this board... good people built my Camaro!

I really hope the new V8 changes the image of Mustang vehicle line. The car looks very conservative right now in comparison to its rivals. It is very possible the new engine is not going to change anything between the ratio of Camaro to Mustang sales. these two cars have become night and day. perhaps they always were.

Just because the car is built in Oshawa doesn't mean that American companies didn't profit from the making of it. Have you seen the diagram specifying which company made what part? There is a lot of American companies that build parts for this car.

If you read the article while they were laid off from the Mustang plant, Ford has opened 1200 Jobs at the Explorer Plant and will be opening 1000 at a battery plant and all these laid off workers get first crack at them. It may be a little longer commute, but these people are not out of work.

What I don't understand is why the new mustang hasn't gone through any evolution since release. When you know the Challenger is going to come out (and beat ya) just before the Camaro comes out (and beat ya more)...why not produce a better car? Ford seems to be sitting back on its heels, trying to ride the success of an amazing release. But, as Peter, Paul, and Mary said "these times, they are a-changin'", time for the mustang to change too...
