Just curious...what is it your friends like about turbos v. Superchargers?

And I know others have already commented...hehe...but I gotta mention that a supercharger whine reminding you of a turbocharged (usually) tuner/ricer is kinda funny.

I have three main friends with super/turbo -Supercharged Chevy Cobalt SS, supercharged 2003 mustang, and turbocharged Camaro SS (not sure year). Funny thing is no matter who I talk to all 3 say their's is the best. The reason I would go with turbocharger is simply because my friend with the turbocharged camaro also had a supercharged camaro before - he said he prefered turbocharger and he got a lot more hp gains and he said although he had a few problems it wasn't anything that significant.

Personally I don't like the whinny sound - and as I mentioned before they sound NOTHING like a tuner 4cyl, but anytime I hear a high pitched whinny sound (even though it's completely different than a 4cyl tuner) I think of a 4cyl tuner - I can't help it. I just don't want my V8 to have a whinny sound - doesn't appeal to me. At the same time, it's possible I'll end up getting a supercharger instead of a turbo, who knows.

If a supercharger is whiny to the point that it makes you think of 4-bangers...what does turbo-spool remind you of?

To be honest I don't like that sound either. I prefer the sound of the Camaro's V8...unfortuanetly I want a lot more hp so I need a supercharger or a turbocharger...although I don't love either sound, I would rather have a turbocharger.

With that - I'm done with this thread. We can argue about this all day but I know some of my friends share the same opinion as me. I have nothing against superchargers, but I prefer turbochargers. I don't like the whinny noise of a supercharger although some people love it, it's just a preference. The whole point of this camaro forum is to discuss the camaro, not argue over superchargers over turbochargers. Agree with me or not doesn't really matter to me, I just wanted to state my opinion to see what everyone else thought.

true about V8, but I'm sure it will be bad-ass
Not going to get too into nitrous because this is supposed to be between superchargers and turbochargers, but the only thing I've heard about nitrous is it causes headaches.

i just mentioned nitrous cus you said you like the sound of the v-8 over the whine or squeal.

and you've probably only heard about people who didnt do their home work and set up their system right.
