So what's your plan?
Streching my finances to the limit for the most part. As long as the V8 comes in under 30k, I'll be able to jump for it....but there won't be any safety net, if you know what I mean. But I seriously think this car is worth it.

I'll have virtually no payments to make on college (near-full ride). I'm very likely to get a decent-paying job once I finish (about 40k), and I just bought my Cobalt in cash, so no car payments. Laugh if you will, but I also plan on living with my parents for just a ~year after college. With no major bills; that's when I'll save up a large deal of mula to finally head out into the 'real world'. It's also when I plan to pay off a sizeable portion of the Camaro, and make plans to buy a small house in the rural areas of the region.

Plan #1:
Buy Camaro ~6 months after I finish college. Keep Cobalt for winter. Live with parents for a year, and save up ~20,000.
Year later, I buy myself a small little fixer-upper, and continue working, paying off Camaro. Life goes on.

Plan #2:
Sell the Cobalt and buy the Camaro. I'll have to put the Camaro through one winter (maybe two if I must) if I follow this route. But this will allow me to save up a little more money than plan #1...it will also be the route I take if I need to get married (I can't see into that future...).
I'll buy a small house a year later, continue working, and life goes on.

There are 5 priorities in my life at the moment. The last two, depending on the wonderful woman may be switchable.
1: College
2: Job
3: House
4/5: Camaro
5/4: Marriage

Does that answer your question? It's a borderline-foolish plan; if I were looking at me, I'd think so! But I have to do it...I just gotta.

I'm buying the big V8 for my 42nd birthday in Feb. 2009, I'm still paying student loans from a ton of education that helps to pick the best(student loan interest is tax deductible, and the new camaro just may end up my "company vehicle")

Its great to see all the young enthusiasm in this great GM tradition.

ps: fbod father, camero, PLEASE influence them to produce an orange with black stripes, I am not excited about having to paint my brand new fire breathing V8 to match my avatar....

Hmm, that doesn't leave a whole lot of margin for error. I'm graduating this spring and will earn relatively the same amount as you (Canadian economy, meh). I will have ~10k worth of debt which isn't a whole lot. I will pay that off, save for a house and a Camaro. I don't see things working out until late 2010, but I won't bother getting my car then. I will wait till the spring since I don't want to have my Camaro sitting in a garage for its first 4 months.

I'll be 30 in January right before it comes out hopefully. However, I'm waiting for the top of the line model to come out before I buy. Possibly the SS with a version of the CTS-V 550+ HP engine?! By then I'll be able to put half down.

Reading you loud and clear. I'm getting married, so my priorities have to be a bit different. My fiancee is driving a 92 Taurus wagon, so she gets first dibs on getting a different car. We also have student loans and given that we'll be married we'll need to be responsible and have that safety net. If I was in your position though, I'd probably have the same plan as you.

I'm 21 & my "Plan" is to pay off any existing accounts from College/Credit Cards and by the time the new Camaro comes out, I should be able to take on those payments.

I know, I know, it's never a wise decision to make payments on anything, but itsn't this car worth it?

Anyway, I'm still in the middle of "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey so it's boosting my confidence in my final decision on when to buy the Camaro. I currently have one job, working as a personal shopper.. but it's not about how much money you make; it's about how much you save!

I'm 21, I'll be 22 when the car comes out. I'm driving an '05 Corvette until then. I would keep the Vette or get a new one but I'm getting married in the Fall of '09, so I would like to cut as many expenses as I can for the house I'm buying. I'll be opting for the biggest V8 they have at launch and if another Supercharged V8 comes out later or the next year I'll trade it in for that one. And the job I have now to support my need for speed is I manage an Aamco Transmissions, one of my father's two Aamco shops. And we are opening a private transmission specialist shop with a total car care center: performance, tires, engine, etc... called Auto Fusion in Long Island. I plan to eventually own all three shops when my father retires, but for now I just run them.

I am 19 years old... I plan to graduate college, get a job, buy a foreclosed home in eastern PA (where you can live comfortably for almost nothing), and then take the money my parents give me for graduation, sell my Firebird, which by then will have gone up in value and is basically mint, and take the rest of the money I have saved, and go in on a base V8. Should be able to put down well more than half of the Camaro's price.
