Although the manual does state 140 ft. lbs. I have been doing mine at 100 ft. lbs. with wheel locks on all studs ....this was the torque spec that the wheel mfg'r stated and im sure he is knowledgeable on the wheel stud size, etc. I have rechecked the torque frequently and it has never loosened. No problems after 15 months of doing so. Im not saying that 100 ft. lbs. is the correct or magic number but thats what i run.

If 100 ft lbs is right for 12 mm, then 140 is right for 14 mm of the same material.

Maybe so, but at least one wheel mfg seems to have a different opinion. Different materials, different thickness of materials, different heat treats etc. Same sort of thinking as different grades of materials for the studs. If my wheel maker had a different opinion on wheel torque I would want to know.

They are just lug nuts. You guys realize that only a handful of people in this world actually own a torque wrench, right? Most people just snug them down until they "feel" tight. My little grandma used to just stand on the wrench during the final turn, to make them tight.

This isn't rocket science. The good thing is that some of you realize how important a torque wrench actually is. Having the lug nuts all tightened the same amount helps to keep them all tight together. This also helps you prevent warping the brake rotors.

Take your pick. I still use 100 on my own cars, and have never had a lug work itself loose.

Torque every lug nut on every car I own, even lugs on the steel wheels of my son's Fusion. I have to admit I was uncomfortable with the Camaro spec of 140ft lbs after seeing the studs so I went with 120 ft lbs.

There are several cars using that stud size at 140, and a few at 125. I know Corvettes are at 100, but they use a smaller stud. Must be several factors that go into selecting the spec. Supplier for the stud, nut, and wheel, probably go into the mix in determining the number too.
After reading all of the posts on this thread I am going with what the engineer proposes. I have the black heritage wheels and bought 4 of the RS 5 spokes. I have two torx sticks, one 100 and the other 140. I am putting on the 5-spokes this weekend with the 140 TS and go from there. If there are any issues I will post to this thread asap.

I checked the torque on my 2011 2SS Vert (have had it about 1 month) and All lug nuts turned slightly and then hit 100ft lbs. So from the factory they were slightly less than 100 ft lbs.

The lug nuts on my 2010 2SS Coupe were closer to the 140 mark. Go figure.

I torqued the locking lugs on the 2011 to 100ft lbs.

The factory lugs on my new 2011 SS convertible were also installed at 100 ft-lbs.

Terrifying!!!

Not really. LOL.

I grew up, and still hold true to this: 100flbs aluminum, 120 flbs steel. I work on an average of 5 cars a day for the last 10 years (under the table) and haven't had any issues to date.

Ive stuck to 110lbs on all the cars Ive worked on, never had a issue, 140 seems like overkill

I have the latest GM Service manual and it states 190NM or 140FTLBS
