Even if it had a hi-po V6 in the 5th Gen, it wouldn't be able to keep up w/ a 4th Gen. There's a weight difference of almost 350+ pounds on the 5th Gen side. But, I see your point. The hi-po V6 will tear the doors off the other automakers V6's.

That is why I think we might see a HIPO V6 Camaro compete with the future Mustang GT, even if the future Mustang GT starts pushing 350hp.

The only other company out there (that I know of) with such a powerful V6 is Nissan. The VQ35HR in the G35 and 350Z are rated at 303 hp and 268 ft-lbs of torque.

There is a higher displacement version of this engine coming out. 3.7L and an expected 330hp and 280 ft-lbs of torque.

The point is that a V6 can make some awesome power (all motor BTW), and I am going to make that prediction that the HIPO V6 in the Camaro will compete with the base V8 in the Mustang GT.

Besides wouldn't that be a slap in the face?

Hey, if GM does the same thing this time as they did with the Grand National... True, it did have a turbo but still that old 231 was setting records-- that was 20 years ago.

The only thing I'm worried about as far as engine power - is price. Stay Competitive - sure - but not at the expense of price, you know? If advancement in engine technology comes with more hp standard for the same price(which it DOES!) then more power to them. I don't care. 450, 80000, it really doesn't matter. But you can't take those numbers and factor in "LS3 = expensive" and try and price the Camaro accordingly. i think what a lot of people are missing when they cough up prices is that 'competitive with the Mustang' (which it always has been) is more than just hp, you need price, too

On a 4th gen with a LS7 dropped in it, and the speculation of an LS7 in the 5th gen.

Cool car -- but with the piece cost of the LS7 -- coupled with some incredible 'future' powerplants -- forget the LS7 in the Camaro as a production option.

My prediction is we get v6's (high and low power), v8 (one probably a NA LS3) and top end production will be an LSA as 3Whiterag has alluded to being the LS3 supercharged.

One of my all-time favorite powerplants. The other GM-nastiness being the 4.3L turbo in the Cyclone/Typhoon. Even though there was absolutely no R&D put into the truck, it still made rediculous numbers.

Our mates over at Wheels magazine have some news for the followers of power-upgrades in Aussie muscle cars. The Australian buff book claims the Special Vehicles unit of Holden is bringing a 7.0-liter LS7-powered supercar to Sydney's Australian International Motor Show in October. There's no word yet on a name, but Wheels posits that HSV

"...could dust off the unused 427 moniker, or maybe the GTS-R badges from the 2004 concept race car. Our bet is for a combination of the two and the car to wear GTS-R 427 badging..."
All we're betting is if this news is true it greatly heightens the possibilities for dropping that 500 HP-plus LS7 engine into the 2009 Chevy Camaro, the Commodore's Zeta-platformed cousin. And don't even get us speculatin' on an LS7-powered Camino SS for 2011. – Ray Wert

You have no idea just how much I'd love to see the LS7 in the Camaro. I just hope that GM could find a way to mass produce them instead of building them by hand. Could you imagine?!?!?! Unless the LS3 could potentially put out more hp than the LS7 all natural.

I hear ya on that. I've seen several LS7 Z06s that have had a cam change (nothing radical), cold air intake, headers and hi-flow cats put down 535-540RWHP. That's exactly where I want to be.
