exactly, it isn't as much a maintenance saving issue as it is a performance increase with perks.

Sounds like savings to me!!
Or is it? How much are you saving per fill up? lets say at the very least, $1, u fill up once every 500km or so, 100,000km, thats a savings of $200 (and thats an understatement).

Ok, but that's not what he was talking about. Re-read what he wrote:

As for performance, if you think GM's engineers are so crappy that they can't figure enough flow for the engine they put in the car...well, WTF? It's not a grocery getter/econobox/luxury car, it's not going to have those kind of design compromises. Now, OTOH, if you've done other mods that might cause more WOT@redline power then I could see needing to upgrade the intake and exhaust.

He was being sarcastic, that was my point. I'll edit my post with a better quote.

He pointed out how people often cite cost savings as a major reason, but that it doesn't add up. That was followed by two people pointing out that it does more than the alleged cost savings. I pointed out that he wasn't talking about what else it does, he was talking about how people often cite cost savings.

Rouge L is saying in the post it isn't worth using a K&N because it isn't cost effect. That is why he is stating the cost between the two.

I believe zebra, victory red, and I are saying there is more involved that JUST the cost of the filters. He is responding to people saying they don't have to replace there filter anymore, that is just a perk to the other added benefits to why they are purchased.

The first thing will be tinting the windows, the second will be to get rid of the factory airbox for a cold air kit.

Someone named "zebra" would think that stripe removal sounds uncomfortable...
