The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is already garnering show honors before it hits the market. The Specialty Equipment Market Association on Tuesday said the reborn sports car would be the official vehicle of this year's SEMA aftermarket show in November.

What does that mean? Expect a handful of Camaros to be on display at the show. Some customizers might even get a chance to work their magic on one--we're checking with Chevrolet on that.

You can bet that the GM stand inside the Las Vegas Convention Center will be swamped. Sorry, the show is not open to the public. But don't worry; we'll be there to feed you plenty of comments, photos and video.

SEMA says the Camaro's "official vehicle" billing is in lieu of its traditional practice of naming an official manufacturer of the show. The move has precedence; in 2005 Honda was named manufacturer, and the Civic Si got the vehicle title. Last year it was Toyota.

The Camaro coupe is set to go on sale early next year, with a convertible version being launched a few months later. It takes styling cues from the 1969 model.

Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president, said the car's storied past was the reason for its selection.

"This isn't just any other vehicle for our industry and the people we serve," he said. "This really is an icon."

The SEMA show is Nov. 4-7 in Las Vegas. It usually draws more than 2000 exhibitors and 130,000 industry watchers every year.

I have to admit, I'd love to see what scissor style doors look like on the Camaro. Maybe someone will do that for the show.

That's impressive. I bet the SEMA people got to see the actual production car to make the decision. I anticipate a leaked photo in the near future.

Tag, if you want in, I'm sure I can get tickets for a bunch of us. I have a business that my father started that has enabled us entry into CES and a few other conventions as such.
