You don't need to sand the dash panels. I've done it that way before and while it will work, it's a pain in the ass. I just use the weather stripping method now. Put some 1/4" weather stripping along the back to jut out the upper part just a couple millimeters and voila. You've got ambient lighting w/out all the sanding and work (and screw ups you might have).

Yea, I put some masking tape along the edge and used a real fine grit sand paper and just pushed it in one direction a few times. The paint is real light and thin so it doesn't take much removal at all and it keeps it looking frosty looking to blend with the switch blade silver color. It works but totally up to you. Good luck on it! Also I have mine wired to the dash lighting so whenever my lights are on the door lights and dash pieces are on. Looks really cool at night and not distracting at all, and of course I can dim them down if I want.

sanding your door panels is going to be an even bigger pain in the @ss. been there done that on door panels as well. you'd be better off buying new ones.

i just did my door panels and there was no sanding required. I used shop towel and brake cleaner. The brake cleaner ate the paint right off and to control what i took off with it I sprayed it to a disposalable towel and wiped it away. To get the cracks i used small screwdriver and pushed the towel in the cracks with it. Took bout 10 minutes per door panel. The door panels were easy to take off also.

Did you tap the inside before using brake cleaner? Did you measure how much paint to remove?
Thanks |

no i didn't tape anything. Also i followed the outline that gm already had going with rest of panel. The light pipe is in a valley just make sure to get all the paint out of the valley. I'm waiting for rest of parts to come in so i can finish the dash lighting.

No I didn't tape the door panels just follow the outline that's already there. Just make sure to get the valley that the light pipe sits in. You have to take the pipe out to get there. Takes a T10 torxs bit to remove screws out that holds it in place
