A Challenger?

Anyone who would refuses to rock a GT500 needs to buy a Smart car and call it done.

I don't care what affiliation one has, it is a Hell of a car.

That's what kept me away from a GT500. However, I'm actually considering replacing my Silverado with a manual Cobalt SS now. I should know rather or not I can afford one by next week.

it will be by 2014 when the mustangs gets redesigned
for the world market.
Ford planners are reportedly looking at three possible directions for the 2014 Mustang. The first -- and perhaps the easiest -- is an evolution of the current car, with styling cues that would appeal to the traditionalist, and a continued focus on the 5.0-liter V-8 as the halo engine. The second is more of an M3-style car, probably with turbocharged V-6 power for markets like Europe. The third - and probably the least likely, says our source - is to transform the Mustang into an ultra-high tech, ultra-high performance coupe along the lines of Nissan's giant-killing GT-R.

Just more changes. I can't say the camaro is perfect in every way but atleast GM did a good job the first time around. Not changing it over and over to compete with the mustang, it just blew it out of the water.

You definately got that right.

I had a '94 Caprice Classic back in the day, loaded with leather (not an ex police car), and that weighed about 4000 (4220 with me and a half a tank of gas), and I thought that was a heavy car. It's hard to believe that big car weighed just a tad more than a Camaro.

why would ford screw americans.. if they make it an ultra-high performance coupe like GT-R then how are we middle class americans going to afford it.
So I really dont see that one. They have the GT500 for that one.

the car sells good.. redesign it a lil. re-do the rear end. then I say turbocharge the 5.0 V8 (lower compression of course) for say 500HP and then just bump gt500 to 650HP

geez i should just work for the car companies.. if I worked for GM i would of sure as hell made sure the Camaro didnt weigh more then 3500lbs..

well been awhile since I read article.. but I think they meant they design it to be easily converted for boost. They can convert it to direct injection they made it set up to accept that which is good for boost.. thats what they were saying. so if they wanted to boost it in the future they put on the direct injection and lower compression and bamm 18psi 600HP easily and safe

For the record, the rods in the GT500 are of the same powder forged type that are in the new 5.0L. They seem to hold up just fine under boost.
just the compression makes it alot more pressure.. the piston just casted aluminum.. Now I do agree the 5.0 will be able to take 5 to 8psi.. as long as tune is good.. 5 psi alone bring it to over 500hp

Yeah, I'm sure nobody at GM or Ford ever considered the curb weight of the car when designing it. Sure, they could build lighter pony car, but I can almost guarantee you that doing so would cost you significantly more than you're paying for the same car today.

theres ways to save weight and not add much cost.. just that all they were thinking about was the stupid crash test safety..

You were not in the development meetings, I suspect...

There are many, MANY factors to consider from an OEM standpoint that makes reducing weight a helluva lot more complex than just.....removing the mufflers, for instance. Weight was a high priority for the team, because it effects everything: Fuel economy, acceleration, handling, cost (indirectly), etc. They DID manage to remove about 150lbs from a comparable G8 (the only other car in NA on a similar platform.)....so to pretend they didn't care about it is kind of silly.

I'd also like to point out that even the M3 weighs 3700lbs, and it's a smaller vehicle using exotic materials.
