really, you should look at it as top of the line pony cars.....from the factory, the SS and SRT8 are the top of the line....so at the moment, SRT8 comes out on top. When the ZL1 comes out, the SRT guys will whine, piss and moan about $$ comparisons and it's not fair, add $$ to the SRT8 and it'll walk on the ZL1 etc. the shit don't ever stop.

Let me start by saying I love the Dodge Challenger SRT-8. It's an amazing vehicle. That being said- $35,000 was pretty much at the top of my budget. For $35,000 I would challenge somebody to find something out there nicer than the Camaro 2ss that I'm driving. Had the Challenger SRT-8 been the same price, the outcome might have been different, but I know every time I turn the key on my Camaro all I do is smile.

Who's talking class? Yes, it is the SAME CLASS, that doesn't mean it's not priced out of it's class, which it is. It's priced in the class of a Vette. A race between and SS and an SRT8 would be a drivers race, and this driver would feel better knowing he paid at least 10K less than the Challenger in the next lane.

Since the SRT8 comes pretty loaded in the base model, it should be compared to a comparably equipped SS, making the difference about $7k. For $7k you get room for 4 adults (not 2 adults and 2 infants), a faster car (yes, the 392 is faster, face the facts), a comfortable and sophisticated ride and great exterior style and interior. Some would not pay the extra $7k for this, some would.

Yeah...Then there's the gas guzzler tax, and the fact that if you buy an AUTO, prepare to get your ass handed to you, because they DIE in 4th.

No they arent, price wise they are closer to a Boss 302 then a GT and they are at least $8k more then a SS. You can do a lot to your car for $8k, plus that is over 20% more.

The base price may appear to be loaded but just adding orange paint and premium sound and you are over $45k, add in the sunroof I have and it is easily over $8k more then the same options I have on my SS. I added mid pipes, tinted windows and a CAI to my SS so I bet I am just as fast as the 392 and my car sounds better plus I still have $7k in my pocket.

In my opinion they are trying to keep sales numbers down so there are fewer of them on the road while increasing their profit margin.

These threads are funny. So much bench racing, quoting car rags, rumors, etc. Obviously a lot of people talking out their behinds, that their Camaro will run 12's because so and so has these mods so my car will go fast - all BS. I doubt 10% of the people talking smack here have ever been to a track, much less raced their Camaro. I do go to the track fairly regularly and there are damn few SS's running 12's - nearly all are in the 13s with the Challengers. Putting catbacks on your car and having a cool avatar won't get you into the 12's either.

Now don't get all defensive, I know there are a couple people here who are serious racers that have modded their Camaro SUBSTANTIALLY and can get into the 12s, maybe 11s. And yes, I know this is a Camaro forum but talking about how fast you THINK your car COULD be doesn't mean it is.

Internet forums - anything is possible if you talk about it long enough. Geez...

Well if you DO decide for a Dodge a SRT8 Challenger is the way to go. I love the way they look... but comparing the 2009 SRT8 I test drove to my Camaro... well there is no comparing. The only upside to Dodge is the Nav, but the Camaro has OnStar Turn-by-Turn which is just as good IMO. I love AFM... had it on my G8 GT and have no complaints. Unless you can find a good deal on a used SRT8, I believe the Camaro is more bang for the buck

Its not crazy to think a 12.9 stock Camaro is possible. There are videos and tests to prove it. HOWEVER... having a low 13 high 12 second car doesn't mean everyone can make their car run those... not everyone is a professional

In my new Motortrend (Old vs. New)

GT500 vert - 12.5 @ 115.0 mph ($60,330 as tested)
Camaro SS - 12.9 @ 110.8 mph ($37,740 as tested)
Challenger SRT8 -13.0 @ 111.3 mph ($46,790 as tested)

I don't see this big performance advantage for the SRT-8. I see a bigger, heavier car that needs a lot more HP to run similar times, and it costs significantly more.

His point is if you want to mod your car buy the SS and for $5k you can get full bolt-on, cam, and heads and put down about 500rwhp and still do it for less than a stock SRT8. That is something to consider unless you want to keep the car stock. That fits into the Best Bang for the Buck conversation.

The fastest bone stock Camaro ran 12.5 or 12.6 by someone on this forum. Now that is not to say everyone can drive that well, only a small percent of us enthuiest can...I'm not one of them. That being said, it is tuff to rate a cars true performance by what we see at the track. There are so many variable including drivers skill that are completely unknown.

Isn't this a personal question?

I used to have a '07 Jeep patriot. It got hammered by consumer reports for the "cheap plastic interior". I always thought that was stupid. I don't need some consumer reports telling me they don't like the looks of something, just like I think its stupid for people to use looks as an argument factor. If I think the SRT8 looks better than the camaro, thats a personal decision- you can't argue with me that no in fact the camaro is better looking... (even though to me for example, the camaro is...) Functionally, whats wrong with the "cheap plastic interior"? Its perfect. it does what its supposed to. It sits there pointlessly, just covering up the cords and metals, and offering you a place to store your drink, which I don't drink when I drive anyway...

I dont care about the interior. Never have on any car I've owned. Why would I care about the interior? I don't pet my car, I drive it. I wouldn't pay $10 for a better interior. I'd probably take $10 to give me the interior out of a 90s camaro.

thats why I will never go "luxury". I have friends buying their G8 GXPs and their BMW M5s, spouting "luxury and performance". Luxury to me is equivalent to saying "waste money". I don't want to pay for a better interior. I don't want to pay for more BS comforts. My only complaint about the camaro interior is that the stupid navigation requires a freaking subscription...

Rant off!
