Another L99 cam question....VVT!
It seems most people are going with the L99 - LS3 conversion. However, I am intrigued about the supposed wider torque curves with VVT.
About a month or so ago it was a wait and see approach as more companies were, supposedly, working on vvt cams. Are there any new updates about when more cams or info will be available on vvt cams for the L99? Also, I've decided to go the cam route later this summer. Are there any reputable places to get it installed and tuned near the Florida panhandle( Ft Walton Beach) area? Thanks before hand! |

I believe I read that Mast Mototsport had stage 1 and 2 VVT cams available. However, the reason so many go LS-3 conversion is with VVT you always deal with a cam that must compromise. Not so much with LS-3 aftermarket cams. Good hunting.

Same thing a lot of us with a L99 are thinking.
Kinda hard to decide to go with the LS3 conversion or wait and see what can be done with VVT Cams.

Going the LS3 route looks to be simpler and the easiest to install (less chance of it being done wrong). It may also be a more reliable(?) option. I don't want to give up reliability when doing a cam since my warranty is trashed.

My estimate is running about $4k-$5k counting labor to do the full LS3 conversion. At that rate I could just slap a Super charger on for more power.

I'm pretty sure Mast has had VVT cams for a while now.

I wanted to add the cam to my L99 but Ject hit it right on the head. Its like 4 or 5k to swap to the LS3 style. And for what 50 hp. At that point it said f'it and got a tvs2300 which was only 2k more and netted 550/550 at the wheels. Much more than 50. I keep asking Jannetty about a vvt cam but he keeps telling me that its not worth it unless you go LS3.

A local bone stock L99 did a base of 320 rwhp. He did the usual CAI, headers, exhaust, and tune. Now at about 352rwhp. He did the LS-3 conversion and went to 438rwhp as I recall. That is a 118 rwhp bump from stock and plus 86 rwhp bump from bolt ons. Also on a cam that idles calmly at 650 rpm and drives stock. Guys, that is very significant IMHO. If you would be interested call ADM Perf for his cost as I think it is about $3400. He has done several other L99 to LS-3 conversions with Magnason TVS 2300 blowers. rwhp has ranged from 545 to 590 rwhp depending on owners specs regarding heads and cam choice. I know it is not cheap but believe me you get much more than 50 HP as was mentioned in posts above. Now, ask ALL these L99 owners if they miss the VVT and AFM? Hell no.

Hey Ject, would you do the conversion for $3400 and spend a night or two in DFW area while it takes place?? Yes, I am just trying to tempt you a little. It is great to have choices with regard to our cars. And, I am pleased that none posting in this thread have mentioned "Will I lose my Warranty"?
