I'd say this is overall pretty good news. Lord knows Chrysler could use the sales, and indeed, this shows there is a market for the vehicles. I'm only worried that the markups will be insanely high for a while for the Camaro. I know they won't be this high because the release will be wider, but they're still collecting markups on the GT500 now a couple years after launch. I know its more limited than the Camaro too, but I still think it will be a long time until we'll see Camaros going for even MSRP.

I'm sorry but I don't see GM going nutz on the optional features list. It will probably be just as it is on every other GM product, several packages, one or two exclusive to a specific engine variant. I'm going to hope for split-fold rears and a sunroof (the latter I don't really count on seeing, but hey since it's on the Challenger why not???). I care more about what's going to fit my wants and budget.

I'd love to see something along the lines of a sunroof. Split folding seats don't matter much to me. Having a solid wall in back adds rigidity, and if I need cargo space, well, that's what my dad's Envoy is for.

I love the matte black finish on some of the details like the inside of the grille and the spoiler. Looks sick.

I love the black too. I always said if I ever got a new Mustang, I'd have matte black accents put on it like the old Mach 1's. Bringing it to the Camaro, I'd do a blue car with matte black stripes and around the tail lights.

I have a feeling that the Camaro will have the split rear folding seat. The wifes old Mustang also had a 60/40 rear folding seat. It seems to be a common thing with coupes nowadays. I sure hope it's threre.
And...it's a less expensive Camaro...not a cheaper Camaro! |

Too add more to this thread of mopar information... the new 09 dodge ram is getting a restyle.. but thats not the biggy.. the biggy is..
THE NEW 5.7L HEMI IS RATED AT 375HP I bet we can expect the 5.7 challenger will get the same motor.. IE the BASE V8 camaro has to compete with a 4k lb 375hp monster! Source

SO. if, indeed GM intends for the Camaro to be best in class...they either have to trump up the L76...or slap the LS3 in there.
Oh, wait. That's right...we're not to believe anything we read about Camaro engines anymore due to 'recent changes':p...hmm...curious. Thanks, diarmadhi I needed something to chew on |

Don't forget that the Challenger will be a few hundred more pounds than the Camaro. So, the Camaro could get the same 375hp rating for a base if not 20 lower and it would still take the Challenger.
However, the majority of people wouldn't think about weight. They would just ask which has more HP and be told the Challenger. That would be bad for GM. So, they would at least have to match, if not beat, the Challenger. Great news...great news...I'd say we are looking for at least 375-400hp. Very good news. |

Hey thanks for that link. I was disappointed about the 5.7L engine, but if they are bumping the output to 375hp then that isn't so bad. Ford really needs to keep up. Here is a quote for your source.... "Hemidakota added: “The Hemi engine has four sizes what I was told. The one to watch is the high output version of the Challenger - not the SRT.” Maybe they are going to drop in that 6.4L HEMI that has been rumored. Probably not until 2010 or 2011 though. Anyway too bad that 2008 will only see those 5000 SRT-8 Challengers that are already purchased, and that people are already paying up to $20k over for them. http://www.planetchallenger.com/gene...se-071206.html

SRC Written By: Seyth Miersma Filed Under: Automotive News, Dodge, Future Vehicles, Sports/GTs December 7th, 2007 12:00 PM With 4,300 confirmed orders on the first day, and 6,600 total as of Wednesday, Dodge will only confirm that the limited production run will stay under 10,000 units. As Dodge releases tantalizing images of the production Challenger, interest in the car continues to grow by the day, if not the hour. Dodge says that it has already taken personal information from 50,000 of what it calls “hand raisers,” potential buyers that have contacted the automaker. The company claims that number is larger even than similar response to the release of its Charger. Whether Dodge end’s up making 5,000 or 9,999 SRT8s, we’d bet that every car is able to find a happy home in short order.

50,000...damn. For that boat? Apparently people are tired of the Mustang, and are looking for some fresh meat, no matter how fatty:p.
Good. |
