DanSS - that video is a decent demonstration of how gas pressure can reduce shock fade, but little else. They didn't even mention the fact that heat is rejected from a monotube shock much more readily than it is from twin-tube shocks, which also helps maintain damping consistency over time.
Shock damping is all about the valving, and this necessarily takes things like monotube vs twin-tube construction and piston diameter into consideration. Implying that twin-tube shocks are necessarily inferior to monotube shocks in all respects just because of the number of tubes is misleading. Moderate changes in spring or bar stiffnesses won't normally hurt the ride quality enough to discourage anybody who holds hard cornering, handling, and the possibility of either autocrossing or track day sessions high enough on the list of priorities going in. Stiffer springs and bars will tend to make the ride firmer rather than harsher, mostly over the larger bumps encountered. It's the amount of suspension movement that determines spring and bar forces. Harshness comes from the amount of shock damping present, mostly when a bump forces the suspension to compress rapidly. Here, it's the speed of suspension movement (and the valving) that dictates the damper forces, and maximum suspension speed (max shock force) happens a little sooner than maximum displacement (max spring & bar forces). I would not be surprised if 1LE damping is just a little different than regular SS damping. Just having a bigger stabilizer bar might be enough to force such a change, never mind the more neutral handling behavior intended. None of these changes from the basic SS level should be a deal-breaker for anybody who places a priority on corner-carving. Like it's been said, it's a package for the 2%-ers among us (implying that it really might not be for everybody, which is OK too). Norm Last edited by Norm Peterson; 09-07-2012 at 09:02 AM. |

^^^agreed. It will definitely be noticeable and "better" as far as performance. I'm quite sure it's not going to be like driving a Stagecoach on cobblestone roads during an earthquake.

Very well explained Norm...Thank You. In the end, if a person finds this car harsh for them, they are not the 2%ters.

I always felt that a car with firm suspension feels more special when you drive it. If i wanted a car that drives like a caddy i would have bought one!

I was going to order on and told Fbodfather about it and John F. They both new it would be my daily driver like the Bee is and said DO NOT DO IT. Unless of coarse I wanted new kidneys and wanted to buy them often. The car is setup for the track not as a daily driver.
I said well I could handle the harder ride but my wife and enjoy going to Camaro club cruises and I did not want to turn of from going if the car rode that hard. |

One could always upgrade to adjustable coilovers. I have been contemplating this, I have Pedders XAs and I am not sure if I should swap them to the 1LE, get new coilovers for the 1LE, or keep the stock ones.

I installed the 1LE sways over the weekend. Honestly, I prefer this ride feel to stock. Doesn't seem harsh at all. Now, couple that with the improved dampening in the 1LE and tires, that may be a different beast that I cannot speak to.

Plenty of people are running the same type setup on their SS now.

It isnt the sway bars taht will make the ride more harsh, it is the strut dampers.

The 1LE is manual only right? If so, Badass!
