Next step for scratch removal? PC+SHR/FMP not quite...
Just recieved my PC and Adams detail kit today and I was super excited. I have a couple of scratches on my Black 1LT so I went straight for the smallest of them. I couldn't feel the scratch at all with my fingernail before I started.
Going in, I was pretty optimistic that the PC + Adams combo would wipe out the scratch but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I hit the scratched area 3 times with SHR on the orange pad followed up without wiping by FMP on the white pad. I wiped after each combo expecting the scratch to be gone but it was there to taunt me each time. Now I'm kind of getting the feeling that if it isn't coming out with three hits from SHR+FMP then they aren't going to do it. Is three times not enough? Should I try it a few more times? Or move on to something else... if so what? Also, this is no knock on the Adams stuff or the PC. The Adams products are really awesome, fantastic detail spray, sumptuous MF cloths and so on. I've only detailed my hood so far with the full PC treatment but the shine is blinding even in the shade I've got a before pic of the scratch, but the after pic didn't turn out because it's getting a bit dark. You can still clearly see the scratch with the naked eye. Shine looks good though |

Thats probably a little outside the realm of possabilities of what can be knocked out with the PC and those products... you can go a few directions from here:
For tougher scratches I've relied on the spot pads (4") on the cordless drill... very aggressive approach, but if the PC failed, then this should do it. Only thing that gives me pause is that first picture looks like that scratch is near an edge... 'rotary' polishing near an edge like that can be sketchy and you risk damage. The other option is to go with a heavier cutting compound, again, near an edge use extreme caution. We are working on a more aggressive compound to match up with our yellow pad for heavy scratch removal, but in the meantime I've always recommended (and respected) Menzerna. Shoot a PM to Phil @ DetailersDomain... he recently jumped on here as a sponsor and I believe he stocks Menzerna products. |

Yeah the scratch is just above and the front wheel well. I still have to do that whole side of the car so I will give it another shot and take some more pics before I move on to the Menzerna.

Meg's 105 cuts quickly even on a PC, it dusts like the sahara though.. This stuff finishes out pretty nicely too. try to find the DA version - and be very careful, it cuts VERY quickly. Stay away from edges - period.
