How do you remove old gas cap?

How do your remove the old gas cap without cutting the line? I searched on here and there is a thread about it but it was never answered. I bought a Stant 11504 locking cap.

I wouldnt know cuz i cut the line lol. I dont think you could attach the line to the new stant one anyways. Its worth it though to have a locking gas cap!

Until you have to fill up after an ice storm lol. I had a pop release cap on one of my old cars and had to get gas once after an ice storm. The release from the car didnt work and i actually had to get a screw driver out to get it to pop (it was just a good beater car so didnt care about scratches since there were tons from the other owners lol).

I wouldnt mind of the satin finish ones though but i dont want to do too many cosmetic things to it before i can do things that will help the overall car personally.

Are you talking about the actual gas door? What this post is referring to is the actual cap inside the gas door. On the new camaros there is no electric push button to open the door. You just push on it and it pops open. The gas cap i bought is identical to the factory one except it has a lock on it to keep people from putting harmful things in your gas. The line he is talking about is the line that is attached to the factory gas cap that serves no purpose but to hold the gas cap while you are getting gas.

At the end of the plastic line their is a plastic pin that holds the line on. Just take a screw driver and gently pry up, under the head of the pin.

Here is a pic of the cap lanyard pin. It popped out easily. I have the Stant locking cap on, but I keep the factory cap with the car just in case it gets misplaced.

Good idea. Thanks for the pic. Can you buy the Stant cap at Autozone or Pep Boys?
