Diff Fluid question
I changed my diff fluid at 5700 miles, it was nasty with lots of shavings on the magnets. I replaced it with 1 quart of Mobil 1 75W-90 which includes LS additive. I noticed that that car groaned during low speed turns, so I turned around and went home. Drove maybe two miles. Bought a bottle of GM LS additive and put about 1.5 ounces in. Drove the same two mile course and it doesn't groan, but it whines now. Whats the deal, doesn't seem like anyone else has had any trouble with non GM diff fluid?

HA! It only does it at low speeds, like parking, so I dont think its too serious. I'm thinking I may try to find some 75W-90 without LS and then use the GM additive.

Royal Purple Max Gear 75w90. Needs nothing else added. Or the GM lube with adding the GM additive. I wouldn't mix and match something that already has an additive and then add more additive. RP works great, I'd go with that.
Then go to a parking lot and do about 10 slow figure 8's. That works the additive into the clutches. If it still whines or groans after that, something is boogered up. |

Yep, you always need to drive tight circles in both directions (or figure 8's) after changing the diff oil. That's very important, you can damage the differential if you forget this step.

No shavings but the fluid was silvery. Looked almost like liquid silver! There was fine silver powder only on the drain plug....
